Leicester Lions' Davey Watt hails conquering of Rossiter's Robins
Total Sport sat down with Leicester Lion's Davey Watt, after he helped his side to victory over Alun Rossiter's men, condemning the Robins to their third defeat in a week.
“’m absolutely delighted with the win tonight," Watt began.
“I wish I had had a better evening with this meeting but it was a huge surprise to get the victory here at Swindon and is massively helpful at building confidence within the team.
Watt admitted the Robins were in a vulnerable position going into the tie.
“We knew Swindon had already lost twice this week before tonight so to lose again is tough for them but it’s a dog eat dog world in Speedway," he said.
With Leicester’s two only victories so far this season coming against the Swindon Robins, many would say that Leicester are Swindon’s Achilles heel. However Australian Watt was cautious to get ahead of himself.
“I don’t know whether we could go as far as saying we’re Swindon’s Achilles heel but they have struggled against us," said Watt
“We’ve actually got a team that is now starting to gel together which is great.
“We’re starting to build some team spirit and we are all starting to ride well as well.”
“Not to take anything away from the boys performance by suggesting that anyone rode badly is pretty harsh as it’s fair that we won," he added.
A tough night for heat leader Davy Watt saw him score just four points in his sides victory over the Robins, however Watt isn’t too worried and insists his performances will get better as he starts to get more meetings under his belt.
“My performance tonight was quite a bit below par.” Watt admitted.
“ I’m trying to come back into some form at the moment.
“ I’ve not been doing too many laps at the minute and I haven’t had too many meetings.
“ I’m desperate too ride a bike and at the moment my first few races are pretty poor before I grow into the meetings.” He said.
Currently sitting at the bottom of the table on points. The Leicester Lions have endured a difficult 2016 Elite league, but Watt doesn’t believe his squad has a defining aim this year but instead believes the team should focus on just taking each meeting as it comes.
“ It’s been a difficult year for us but our aim is to just take each meeting as it comes," he added.
“ As a team we aren’t really looking at the league itself.
“ You know, the clubs lost a bunch of points already this season but what we can do is push on and have a strong second half of the season.” He added.
