Ling Misses Out To Westley As Manager Of The Month
Swindon Town Boss Martin Ling has been pipped to the accolade of League One Manager of the Month for November, losing out to Peterborough gaffer Graham Westley.
Ling found himself on the shortlist for the League One Manager of the Month Award for November, following an impressive start to life at the Swindon Town helm.
The 49-year-old former Swindon Town icon replaced Mark Cooper at The County Ground in early November and has overseen a resurgent Robins side as a result.
Ling's town adventure got off to a nightmarish start, as his side fell 3-1 FA Cup away defeat to this weekend's visitors to the County Ground, Rochdale. As things looked to go from bad to worse, Town then sustained a demoralising 5-1 humbling at Fleetwood. Thereafter, the turnaround was to begin. Positive results against Scunthorpe, Walsall and a demolition of Chesterfield soon followed.
Under Ling's tutelage, Town picked up nine points out of an available 12 throughout November, a run of form lifting them from the lower echelons of the relegation zone and into the mild safety of 17th place in League One.
Ling was aiming to follow in the footsteps of Mark Cooper - the last Swindon manager to be honoured by the Football League.
Instead, Ling was pipped by Posh manager Graham Westley, whose side won all of their four games in November and scored 14 goals in the process.
The deciding Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel comprised former Ipswich Town boss George Burley, Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
