New man Longelo: 'Swindon's always been a big club'

New signing Rosaire Longelo insisted it was “impossible” to say no to joining Swindon Town.

The 24-year-old became the third new arrival at the County Ground for next season, having joined Mark Kennedy’s side from Accrington Stanley on a permanent deal.

The DR Congo-born full-back played 91 times for Stanley in all competitions, scoring six goals in total.

Speaking to the club website about his arrival, Longelo said: "Swindon's always been a big club, so when they came calling it was impossible and hard to say no to a club like Swindon.

“I'm delighted and so happy to join the club and honestly I can't wait to get started."

Longelo was offered a new deal at Stanley, having featured on the club’s retained list issued in April.

But Swindon Town head of football Jamie Russell was pleased to secure the former Newcastle United youngster’s services.

He added: "Rosaire is an exciting player that is comfortable on either side of the pitch.

“His attacking flair will bring excitement to the Swindon fans. We are really pleased to have won the race to gain Rosaire’s signature."

Longelo joins Tunmise Sobowale and Ollie Clarke as fresh faces for the 2024/25 League Two campaign, while Nnamdi Ofoborh and Sean McGurk have penned new deals.

Young defender Joel McGregor also signed his first pro deal with Town earlier this month.
