Luc Johnson returning to Swindon Wildcats
Swindon Wildcats are delighted to announce that Luc Johnson will be returning to Swindon for the 20/21 NIHL season. In what will be his third season with the club since signing from MK Lightning, our #21 has been a big part of the successes in the last two years.
Having graduated through the Swindon based Okanagan Hockey Academy, Luc moved back to MK where he won the EPL Cup & Playoff titles in 16/17. Since returning to Swindon, the Wildcats have come away with the Autumn and National cup as well as last years NIHLS1 League Championship.
Speaking after signing a new deal, Luc said:
I’m thrilled to be back in Swindon again for another season. Winning 3 trophies in the last 2 seasons has been incredible and it was a no brainier to sign back with the club. It’s ran like a professional organisation from top to bottom and I believe that shows throughout the league.
Seeing the squad Aaron has put together is very exciting! Obviously having Tomasz back is a huge boost to the team and I know the fans will love seeing him back in the Wildcat logo.
I can’t wait to get started in September with all the league changes and the new teams/ownership groups. I think everyone is excited for the upcoming season & I hope to see all you fans there on our launch day ready for another exciting season ahead!
Similarly, Head Coach Aaron Nell was thrilled to have secured his signature once more:
It’s huge for us to have Luc back for another season, the work he does on the ice really is second to none and his energy is infectious for the team. He had a tough campaign last year getting some injuries at difficult times, but he always bounced back and strives to improve.
The work he does on the penalty kill is vital for us and for a small guy he certainly has a big presence on the ice. He’s got good speed and a very good hockey brain, I’m sure the fans will be over the moon to have him back for another year, just as I am.’
