Samba, 32, is currently contracted to Greek side Panathinaikos which means Swindon are unable to sign him until January although Williams said a few weeks ago that players that have played "at the top level" have been on trial at the club of late.
Top level experience is something Samba has following spells at Blackburn Rovers (2007-2012) and Queens Park Rangers (2013) with spells in Russia inbetween and since before his move to Greece this summer where he signed a one-year deal.
Total Sport asked Williams for clarification on the situation with Samba to which he coyly replied: "you (Total) know more than me, I don't know anything about that" with neither an admission of truth or a suggestion there is nothing to the story.
Williams is no longer in charge of transfers - that is now the role of director of football Tim Sherwood, however the head coach does take training sessions.
