A vague Swindon Town club statement only stated that Sharpe, who has seven caps for the Northern Ireland U21s, had signed a "short-term" deal at the club but did not specify a date on when it expires.
Sharpe has Derby County and Notts County among the list of his ex-clubs, along with a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town.
When Total Sport asked Williams for clarification on Sharpe's contract situation he responded:
"I have no idea. I can't tell you that I'm afraid."
What Williams does know for certain though is what the 22-year-old defender can bring to the squad, despite "a lot of question marks."
"He's got pace, strength and power, he can be a force going forward and, when he's fully fit, he can probably deal with a lively winger.
"(There are) a lot of question marks but they are the things we believe he can do if he's got the potential."
Sharpe joined Swindon after a lengthy trial period and Williams revealed at full-time why Town decided to sign him.
"He has been training with us for a while and it was an opportunity for us to get him in on a short-term deal and for us to look at him in an competitive game.
"He played in a reserve game but, depending on the game, it is sometimes difficult to gauge whether or not the player has got the qualities you're looking for and we got the opportunity tonight to have a look at him in a real competitive game."
