Lyle and Malasinksi to face off as Great Britain meet Poland

Swindon Wildcats' netminder Stevie Lyle has again been called up by Great Britain to keep guard between the pipes for the national side, as they prepare to take on Tomasz Malasinski's Poland.

Lyle comes into the national frame to replace the injured Stephen Murphy of Belfast Giants and will look to build upon his 75th cap recently achieved against Serbia during the ice hockey Championships in France.

Commenting on Lyle's addition to the squad, national boss and MK Lightning coach Pete Russell said: "It is disappointing to lose Stephen Murphy again and he will be missed.

"But Stevie Lyle, as we all know, is a very experienced goalie and has done it time and time again for GB.

"He led us to a win over Serbia in February and he still has the ability to play at a high level," Russell added.

Lyle had a frantic 2015/16 season for Swindon Wildcats, beginning the campaign as head coach before stepping down in favour of young forward Aaron Nell.

Making his comeback between the pipes as a squad player before Christmas, Lyle pieced together a string of show-stopping performances earning multiple man-of-the-match awards as a result.

Lyle could well meet a familiar face on the ice in the form of Swindon Wildcats team mate and Poland international Tomasz Malasinski.

The Wildcats' number 89 is likely to lead the line for the Polish team, and will be looking to bring his recent strong league form which saw him clean up the accolades at the recent Swindon Wildcats' end of year awards.
