Ling's Swindon Town tenure got off to an unfortunate start, as his first outing in the Robins' dug-out saw a 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Rochdale at Spotland.
The tides were soon to turn however, as Ling went on to oversee five league wins within the following eight games.
Confidence returned to the ranks at Town, as the duo of Ling, Williams and Embleton guided the Robins to wins over the likes of Scunthorpe and table-topping Walsall, before going on to record a prominent 4-0 demolition of Chesterfield upon opposition turf.
The rich run of form saw Ling nominated for the accolade of League One manager of the month - an award he would narrowly be beaten to by Peterborough boss Graham Westley.
The 49-year-old former Swindon Town player was appointed manager of the club on November 3rd, following the club's parting of ways with former boss Mark Cooper.
Ling had been searching for a route back into football management following his controversial sacking from Torquay United in April 2013. Ling was relieved from his position with the Gulls after taking time out following a battle with depression.
Swindon Town Football Club are yet to release an official statement, which is expected to arrive tomorrow. Taking to social media platform Twitter, the club confirmed the reason behind Ling's departure was on the grounds of 'health reasons.'
