MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town 2-0 Oldham Athletic

SWINDON TOWN secured their seventh league win in a row as goals from Kaiyne Woolery and Eoin Doyle were enough to record a 2-0 win for Town. Total Sport Swindon's Rajan Hothi gives his match report from SN1.

Swindon were forced into making one change from their win at Grimsby with Diallang Jaiyesimi coming in for the injured Jordan Lyden as Town lined-up in a 4-4-2.

Oldham started the game brighter with a succession of corners, and it was the visitors who created the first chance. Desire Segbe Azankpo did well to link-up with Mohammed Maouche, but Steven Benda was on hand to stop the former's effort.

Swindon have usually started games well under Wellens, but they were struggling to settle with the visitors pressing well. Michael Doughty was caught slacking on the ball, but Azankpo was unable to take advantage as the Latics looked the more dangerous in the early exchanges.

Oldham threatened again as Alex Lacovitti and Maouche linked up well, but the latter blasted his effort over the bar with Dino Maamria's side putting Town on the back foot.

Swindon created their first opening after 19 minutes. Jerry Yates and Eoin Doyle combined and Yates' cross found the 31-year-old, however, his header sailed over Zeus De La Paz's goal.

Oldham came into the clash unbeaten in five games, and they looked full of confidence with Jamie Stott's ambitious strike needing to be tipped over the bar by Benda.

Town weren't at the races in the first half-hour but could've taken the lead after 33 minutes. Doyle's knockdown found Kaiyne Woolery, but he saw his effort go over the bar on the turn.

Oldham went close again five minutes before half-time as a low cross found David Jones. Thankfully for Town, Rob Hunt was on hand to block the goal-bound effort.

Down the other end, Diallang Jaiyesimi ran through on goal but was eventually crowded out as he tried to get his shot away.

Swindon took the lead during added-on time to the first-half. Doughty's cross-field ball found Woolery, and the 24-year-old fired home to put Town ahead.

The goal saw Swindon go into the half-time break 1-0 up, but Wellens' side were nowhere near their best during the first 45.

The first 15 minutes of the second-half went by without any real chances, and on the hour-mark, Keshi Anderson replaced Jaiyesimi as Swindon looked for a second.

Anderson almost made an instant impact as his inviting cross just evaded Yates in the box who would've had a tap-in.

Swindon almost grabbed their second as Doughty and Caddis combined from a free-kick. Doughty's shot was blocked, but only into the path of Woolery who saw his effort blocked off the line.

Chances were at a premium in the second-half, and Danny Rose replaced Doughty as Town looked to preserve their lead.

Swindon had the ball in the net with just under ten minutes left. Anderson played through Doyle who looked to have converted his 19th goal of the season, but his effort was chalked off for offside.

However, Doyle made sure of the three points just three minutes later. A fantastic strike from the edge of the box found the bottom corner as the 31-year-old notched in his ninth consecutive game to put Town 2-0 up.

Oldham almost grabbed a goal back with two minutes remaining. Lacovitti was unmarked in the box, but his volley was too high, and let Swindon off the hook.

The win sees Swindon stay top of the league ahead of their clash with Forest Green Rovers next week.
