The County Ground, County Road, Swindon, Wiltshire , SN1 2ED
Website 0330 002 1993Full-time by the way, I was sorting out other stuff. Swindon lose and I couldn't begin to tell you how.
90- Reed gets it on target and the 'keeper plays hot potatoes, but catches it at the second attempt. 0-1.
90- OFF: Ben Gladwin
ON: Louis Reed- to take the free-kick
90- Late free-kick for Swindon, just outside the box, dead centre. 0-1.
90- The ref is actually giving Agyei a good run for his money by allowing it all and not giving Swindon a single decision all game. 0-1.
90- Agyei is performing the role of pantomine villain to perfection here. 6 minutes added on.
81- Right before the changes Hutton got beyond his marker again and found Wakeling, but his header went just over the top. 0-1.
81- OFF: Joel Tabiner; Luke Jephcott, Ciaran Brennan
ON: Charlie Colkett; Tomi Adeloye, Marcel Lavinier
77- Credit to Crewe, this is the most s'housing I think I have ever seen from a football team. Genuinely Atletico Madrid levels of time wasting and gamesmanship. 0-1.
73- OFF: Eli King
ON: Rio Adebisi
69- This is genuinely not possible. Gladwin makes a great run down the right and his first time cross is straight onto the head of Jephcott whose header crashes against the bar. There is no way Swindon score in this game. 0-1.
8734 fans in attendance today.
61- This second half is the definition of one sided, but for the time being Crewe are keeping Swindon out through standing in front of goal and blocking every shot. It is quite frustrating to watch. 0-1.
55- Hutton played an optimistic scooped ball towards Wakeling that was batted away by Offord, but it came to Jephcott and he took aim from 25 yards out and forced the 'keeper into a good save. 0-1.
53- This is just ridiculous. This time Iandolo played a good ball into Jephcott and from six yards out his shot was blocked. 0-1.
53- OFF: Lachlan Brook
ON: Rodney McDonald
50- You have to be kidding. Ellis Iandolo has two shots, his first hit Okonkwo on the floor and it bounced back to him and he volleyed it over the top. How have Swindon not scored? 0-1.
49- Gladwin whips in a free-kick and it takes a deflection in the crowd, but doesn't quite get past Okonkwo. 0-1.
46- So close. Swindon are instantly in down the left and Darcy's cross is fractionally over the head of Jephcott. 0-1.
Ben Gladwin kicks-off the second half.
Crewe are back with us, so we should be underway soon.
That might have been the highest standard of on-pitch match at half-time I have ever seen. Get those players signed to the academy.
I could not tell you how Swindon are behind. Crewe scored their penalty on the first time they went forward and that has thrown Town, but this game is there for the taking.
Half-time: Swindon 0 Crewe Alexandra 1
45- Swindon troubling again. Wakeling makes a good run inside Iandolo and gets fed the ball, he doesn't get around the cross enough but the 'keeper had to push it away from goal. 0-1.
Three minutes added on.
44- Great move. Swindon work the ball from left to right for Hutton to send in a low ball, but the ball doesn't quite bounce for Wakeling and Jephcott's shot is blocked. 0-1.
40- Ciaran Brennan gets booked for going through the back of Basalla Sambou.
39- Swindon have become desperate too early. This Crewe team are there for the taking if they just stick to their game, but there are too many balls going forward early. 0-1.
36- Good keeping from Brynn. Crewe get forward on the counter and Uwakwe sends a good looking ball in that the Swindon 'keeper is out quickly to deal with. 0-1.
34- Crewe go close again. There were about four shots in succession which all magically bounced back to Crewe players, but there were enough bodies in the way for Swindon to scramble clear. 0-1.
33- Khan goes close. The midfielder went on a run of about 20 yards and looked like he had control for zero of those yards and then on the stretch had a shot form 25 yards and skidded just wide. 0-1.
30- Eli King goes into the book for an ugly challenge on Jacob Wakeling as Swindon were looking to break. 0-1.
28- Harries got up and then as soon as play restarted he went back down again and was promptly taken off. 0-1.
28: OFF: Cian Harries
ON: Mathieu Baudry
26- Cian Harries is currently down, but looks to be ok. 0-1.
23- After Swindon were done complaining about the ball being placed ahead of the spot, Dan Agyei dispatched his penalty into the roof of the net. And somehow, Swindon are behind. 0-1.
Goal. Swindon 0 Crewe 1 (Agyei 23')
22- Penalty to Crewe. You just knew it.
Ronan Darcy for absolutely no reason goes to ground in the box and brought down Brook.
20- Typically, Swindon nearly mucked this easy start up. Harries gets turned on the halfway line by Agyei, who runs towards the penalty area. Thankfully his cross was turned behind for a corner. 0-0.
19- Fair play to Crewe, they know who they are and have been time wasting since we started. Respect. 0-0.
16- Huge defending. Hutton has three players for company on the right, but gets past and plays a great ball to the back post, destined for Wakeling but Luke Offord dives in front and puts it behind. 0-0.
13- Khan has a go from distance. There is lots of space all over the place and Khan drove into space and let fly from 30 yards out and his effort went well wide. 0-0.
10- Swindon need to be sure to take advantage of this, Crewe are giving them everything they want so far to get that ball into the final third, so they need to apply the quality to turn that into goals. 0-0.
7- Another chance for Swindon. They have all the space in the world out wide so far and this time Iandolo stepped inside and crossed just over the head of Jephcott. 0-0.
7- Good news, Crewe have opted not to really press Swindon, so they have been able to work the ball forward pretty easily so far. The visitors seem caught beaten stepping up and dropping off. 0-0.
3- It is a vintage Lindsey quick start. Hutton sized up his man, checked back and delivered a low ball into Jephcott, who with a better contact would have troubled Okonkwo. 0-0.
2- Not a bad start from Town. Hutton laid the ball back to Gladwin and his looping cross picked out Wakeling, and the 'keeper had to be sure he didn't carry the ball over his own line. 0-0.
Connor Thomas gets us underway.
Here come the players.
Good to see a few Burton Albion youth players as the flag wavers today.
From what I can tell about the Crewe bench, there are not a lot of attacking options on it were they to fall behind with one of Lindsey's classic fast starts (located exclusively in his head) then the most attacking player they can bring on might be Charlie Colkett.
If you are looking for something to do whilst we wait for kick-off, then may I suggest reading my article from yesterday about Swindon's build-up play. Read it here.
Observation from the warm-ups, Arthur Okonkwo in goal for Crewe is gigantic.
Going back to the Swindon team, it would appear that Lindsey is sticking with the 352, so that continuity he spoke about on Thursday starts now. Given the level of performance for large parts of that Tranmere game I am rather surprised that he stuck with the same 11, but I generally quite like the system.
A classic pre-match aside, how does Clinton Morrison have a job? On Sky he just said that his England team would have Luke Shaw as a centre-back in a back 4. You really have to question what that job interview must be like.
You have to give credit where it is due, having flopped big time trying to predict the line-up last week, Jonny Leighfield got it spot on this week. He did say it attempting to jinx it so that there would be changes, but credit nonetheless.
Crewe have made one change from their 1-0 win against Colchester, making their shape easy to work out.
Okonkwo
Mellor Offord Sass-Davies King
Uwakwe Thomas Brook
Sambou Tabiner
Agyei
Crewe XI:
Okonkwo, Mellor, Offord, Thomas, Agyei, Brook, Sambou, King, Uwakwe, Sass-Davies, Tabiner
Subs: Richards, Adebisi, Williams, McDonald, Griffiths, Finney, Colkett
Swindon Town XI:
Brynn; Brennan, Harries, Blake-Tracy; Hutton, Darcy, Khan, Gladwin, Iandolo; Wakeling, Jephcott
Subs: Copland, Reed, Baudry, Adeloye, Aguiar, Lavinier, Roberts
Crewe come into this game off the back of two straight wins and yet no one in their camp seems to be at all confident. Expect Crewe to win 3-0 then.
