Website 0330 002 1993Full-time: Swindon 1 Tranmere 1
90- Jordan Turnbull (who else?) clears out Luke Jephcott and Swindon have a free-kick in a good area. 1-1.
90- FBT won the header from that corner and it deflected in front of the 'keeper, but just over the bar. 1-1.
90- Head tennis in the Tranmere box. A strong rally almost saw Brennan with a big chance, but the 'keeper punched it behind. 1-1.
90: OFF: Morris
ON: Davies
90- Superhero Brynn to the rescue. Tranmere looked destined to score on the counter as Hemmings was picked out with a cross 6 yards out, but his contact wasn't clean and Brynn made the save. 1-1.
4 minutes added on.
87- Unbelievable save. Reed lined up a free-kick from 25 yards and dipped it into the top corner only for Doohan to claw it away. 1-1.
86- OFF: Hawkes
ON: Hughes
82- OFF: Khan, Wakeling; Nevitt
ON: Reed, Roberts; Burton
82- YYYYEEAAANOOO. Swindon thought they had scored as Hutton played a fabulous ball into Wakeling, he took it down and finished. However he was flagged offside. 1-1.
80- That could have been dangerous as Tranmere countered with plenty of men but Nevitt opted to shoot from distance and hit it out of the stadium. 1-1.
74- OFF: Ellis Iandolo
ON: Marcel Lavinier
73- I find it unlikely that Swindon have marked Ethan Bristow at any point and he has looked very dangerous from left-back. 1-1.
66- Some good pressure there. Wakeling was played in down the side, but failed to make up his mind and Swindon recycled the ball and Hutton won a corner. 1-1.
64- Swindon have definitely been better this half as they have held the ball more and been able to get forwards, but the bar was very low and they have still not been particularly good. 1-1.
Elliot Nevitt gets booked for pulling Khan.
58- Saidou Khan goes close. The midfielder received the ball from Hutton 25 yards out and struck low just wide of the post. 1-1.
57- I was just looking for Gladwin and saw that he was playing on the shoulder, why would he ever be there? I honestly can't think of a reason. 1-1.
55- Good opening for Tranmere as Bristow does well down the left and finds Wakes, whose shot gets deflected away from danger. 1-1.
The attendance here is 9425 with 317 away fans.
51- Big few minutes. This time Hemmings runs down the left, but Brennan doesn't let him beyond and forces his to shoot from the angle and it goes over. 1-1.
50- Hutton again providing the threat as he hits a high ball to the back post towards Darcy who rises high, but can't make a connection. 1-1.
49- You feel for Hutton. The right-back spots Gladwin running beyond and he hit a stunning ball right in stride with him, but Gladwin fails to bring it down and Turnbull can clear. 1-1.
Ben Gladwin kicks off the second half.
Tranmere are doing some group stretches on the field, so we are just waiting for the hopefully freshly-berated Swindon to players to re-emerge.
I expect Lindsey to look to change something at half-time as practically nothing worked in that first half.
That was a very poor first half from Swindon and they are fortunate to be level, without Hutton's crossing they wouldn't be. They have been poor all over the pitch and have really struggled to consistently play out from the back. Lindsey has work to do in that dressing room.
Half-time: Swindon 1 Tranmere 1
45- One of the worst decisions you will ever see. Cian Harries is having his shirt pulled halfway to the train station by Hemmings and without the linesman flagging, the ref gives a free-kick to Tranmere. 1-1.
45- 2 minutes added on.
44- The first-half looked to be petering out but Khan turned well on the edge of the box and Darcy picked up the ball and played Jephcott in out wide, his ball to Wakeling has good and the striker rolled his body but allowed the ball to get away from him. 1-1.
36- Joe Murphy on Tranmere's coaching staff has been booked for complaining about I don't know what. 1-1.
35- That should have been 2. Ben Gladwin played a delightful free-kick to the back post where FBT seemed destined to score, but the ball bounced beneath his foot. 1-1.
34- That goal is Wakeling's first for 8 games and coincided with the crowd starting to get behind Swindon, which I am sure is a coincidence from which we should learn nothing. 1-1.
30- Swindon in no way deserved that goal but by god did they need it. After working the ball across the pitch, Hutton's low driven cross went across goal and Wakeling tapped into an unguarded net to end his goal drought. 1-1.
GOAL! Swindon 1 (Wakeling '29) Tranmere 1
28- Tranmere go close again. The visitors were trying to build patiently down the right, but Iandolo made a timely interception which both he and FBT left, allowing Tranmere to win back the ball and tee up Merrie on the edge of the box, who fired over. 0-1.
26- Swindon have begun to hold possession more effectively, but Tranmere are dropping very deep and are proving tough to play through. 0-1.
23- I have said it before, and I will say it again, Khan is NOT a holding midfielder. He tries to run beyond Hemmings in midfield but was easily tackled and Tranmere ran way three-v-three and a fine block tackle from Harries prevented Nevitt unleashing a fierce strike. 0-1.
20- This goes to show how little Swindon have done so far, but Hutton crossing and finding Jephcott (who was soon tackled and then gave away a free-kick) was their best moment of the game so far. 0-1.
19- Brennan is hobbling off but looks to be fine to continue. 0-1.
19- Swindon could very much do without another CB injury, but Brennan is down receiving treatment.
17- Lindsey and Day are already having discussions on the sideline, but I think he needs to make a change now. Swindon have been very exposed when Tranmere switch the ball to their full-backs and they have not played out from the back at all well. 0-1.
16- Sticky moment for Swindon. A cross from Bristow seemed to be harmless, but Brennan made a hash of the clearance and flicked it behind him for Nevitt, and his ball across goal had to be cleared by FBT. 0-1.
15- Something I don't quite get is that Lindsey said he liked the 442 diamond, but that it was too narrow to play consistently, but the 352 is equally as narrow, but you just substitute an attacking midfielder for a centre-back. 0-1.
13- Despite having three CBs, Swindon look open through the middle. Hemmings made a good run up the middle and Brennan had to make a well timed interception to stop him being played clean through. This is not working. 0-1.
Swindon have been nowhere close to the races so far, Khan lets the ball slip under him and it falls to Tranmere, Hawkes makes an incisive run in behind and makes no mistake. 0-1.
Swindon 0 Tranmere 1 (Hawkes 10')
9- Hemmings with the first sight of goal. He receives the ball down the left side of the box, goes around the outside of Brennan and shoots with force at the near post where Brynn is there to gather. 0-0.
7- Ethan Bristow does the first piece of good play so far as he bursts beyond Wakeling and into the final third, but his ball to the right was overhit.
Pretty scrappy start from both sides, neither holding possession very well and Tranmere are looking to play forwards whenever they can.
Forget that, it is looking like a 352, Hutton was just quite deep.
It looks like Jephcott might be playing right wing, it is definitely 4 at the back for Swindon but Wakeling is the man in the middle of the front three.
Tranmere get us underway.
I think we are about to witness one of football's greatest sights, a mascot attempting to look sombre during a minute of silence.
There are a few military types on the pitch and I thought that Cian Harries was a perversely big mascot after he was standing in front of one in the line-up.
I think this game will tell us a lot about Swindon. We have seen a lot of reasonable performances at the County Ground this season, but nothing spectacular. They were just that against Mansfield two weeks ago, but never got going against Stockport in the FA Cup. If they can get close to that Mansfield display today then it will show that they are a force to be reckoned with this season, but if it is a repeat of last weekend then it might confirm some fears.
The Swindon system is a touch up in the air with the three changes. I would expect and accept a strangeness... at first. But I would also expect a 433 with Iandolo playing on the wing, but we could potentially see a reversion to the 352 with FBT playing as a CB, as was discussed on Thursday (you really have to ready the press conference live blog, as that is three or four references already).
I am in position and my paralytic fear of England at World Cups was not eased after I made that Foden comparison and they Man City conceded. But that will be a problem for next week as I am now locked in on League Two (although I will definitely periodically panic about England as we go, be prepared)
A limp cross from Foden as Man City search for a winner late against Brentford is a horrible thing to see especially as England will almost definitely be in this exact situation a few weeks time. I am already a wrack of nerves for the World Cup and a ball is yet to be kicked.
Jonny Leighfield was trying to predict the team before it was announced and, frankly, embarrassed himself. He thought Reed would start, clearly underestimating Lindsey's undying love for Khan. It was a clear example of why you have made a good call to read this live blog.
We also found out on Thursday that Swindon were looking for a back-up 'keeper and it would appear as though that has not yet happened and so youth team player Jack Copland has been called into the squad.
Lindsey talked about Tranmere having switched to a 442 at half-time in their last game and playing better and it seems as though they have stuck with that.
Doohan
Dacres-Cogley Turnbull Simeu Bristow
Morris Merrie O'Connor Hawkes
Hemmings Nevitt
Now I find out what the line-up means from Tranmere.
Tranmere Rovers XI:
Doohan, Dacres-Cogley, Bristow, O'Connor, Merrie, Morris, Hemmings, Hawkes, Turnbull, Nevitt, Simeu
Subs: Hewelt, Davies, Nolan, Hughes, Jameson, Byrne Burton
I don't know about that one, Clive.
Swindon Town XI:
Brynn; Hutton, Brennan, Harries, Blake-Tracy; Khan, Darcy, Gladwin; Iandolo, Jephcott, Wakeling.
Subs: Copland, Lavinier, Reed, Baudry, Adeloye, Aguiar, Roberts
I think we can all agree to forget about last week and chalk it up to "classic Swindon in the cup shenanigans". As far as this live blog is concerned, the last performance was that rip roaring display at Mansfield.
Good afternoon everyone, it has been a hot minute since Swindon were at home, but they are back and Tranmere are in town.
