Matt Taylor has not "thought about" becoming Swindon Town boss on permanent basis
Matt Taylor says he has not thought about the possibility of becoming Swindon boss full-time, after losing his first game as interim manager.
Swindon lost 3-0 at home to Cheltenham on Saturday and dropped outside the League Two play-off positions as a result and are now ninth in the League Two table.
Taylor is not expected to get another game as interim manager, with chairman Lee Power telling the BBC last week that he would make a decision on Swindon's next manager on the weekend just gone.
Betting has suspended on ex-Southend manager Phil Brown getting the gig and an announcement of the next manager, Brown or otherwise, is expected this week with Power also telling the BBC that the next manager would get the last 10 games of the season.
Interim manager Taylor said post-Cheltenham that he is not sure whether he wants the job on a full-time basis just yet, although he is doing his coaching badges and still wants to become a coach once he has retired from playing.
"I don't know, I haven't really thought about it, to be perfectly frank. It's something that I'd obviously like to go into, but at this precise moment in time I have a playing contract, I was asked to help the football club out, and that's what I've done.
"I believe it's a decision that's out of my hands. Am I coach? No, at the moment I'm a player."
Taylor, 36, only signed a one-year deal at Swindon in the summer, therefore his contract expires at the end of the season.
Despite an encouraging opening 10 minutes, Swindon reverted back to their style under former boss David Flitcroft later on, with the team struggling to impose themselves on Cheltenham.
When Taylor was asked at full-time whether he tried to carry on where Flitcroft left off, or whether he was trying to exert his own style onto Town, he replied:
"Injuries have pretty much dictated the selection, that's the truth. We've got so many injuries, so we go with the best way that we thought we could have a chance of winning the game."
