'Maverick' McGurk keen to kick-on after signing new Swindon Town deal

Winger Sean McGurk laid down the gauntlet for himself to get more goals and assists at Swindon Town next season, having penned a new deal at the County Ground.

The 21-year-old initially joined the Robins from Leeds United back in January, playing nine times and scoring twice during the second half of the season.

McGurk’s goals came during a 2-2 draw at Gillingham in February, before the opener in a 3-1 League Two victory over Tranmere two games later.

And the Liverpool-born winger was delighted to extend his stay under new boss Mark Kennedy.

McGurk told the club website: "Delighted to have signed a new deal with the club and to be honest I've been in constant conversation since the end of last season.

"I've been in conversation with Jamie Russell and the new manager, and they've both shown and described to me how they see my role at Swindon Town, and moving into next season I want to get more goals and assists and create more of those moments from last season."

Swindon Town head of football Jamie Russell added: "Sean is a maverick with fantastic technical ability, allowing him to manipulate the ball in tight situations.

“As a player, Sean relishes 1v1 duels and opportunities to score in and around the box, like last season with his goal against Tranmere.

"With a full pre-season under his belt, Sean has the potential to go on and excite fans and help score goals and get assists."
