Swindon Town overcome early setback to earn victory over Melksham

A first-half double from Harry Smith helped Swindon Town on their way to a 3-1 victory over Melksham Town in a friendly.

The win was the club’s third over non-league opposition this pre-season, having also sealed victories over Swindon Supermarine and Hungerford Town.

The clash at Oakfield Stadium got off to a rapid start, with the hosts opening the scoring after two minutes through Ralph Graham.

But just two minutes later, Mark Kennedy’s side were level. Smith took advantage of a ricochet off a defender to slot home his first goal since re-signing for the Robins.

The striker, who spent last season at Sutton United, then added another after finishing smartly from close range with just nine minutes on the clock.

Having made a number of changes on the hour mark, Town then added a third late on.

Joel McGregor burst down the right before teeing up Paul Glatzel (pictured), who tapped home his fourth goal of pre-season.

Swindon are back in action when they make the trip to Highworth Town on Saturday (2pm).
