Michael Flynn made sure to stay grounded after Swindon hit Crawley for six

Michael Flynn was refusing to get carried away with Swindon Town’s performance as they thrashed Crawley Town 6-0. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the manager after the match.

Jake Young set up Dan Kemp’s first half goal before scoring four himself after the break, and Tyrese Shade added a sixth in injury time to give Town their resounding victory.

Flynn said he believed that it was important not to get wrapped up in the emotional highs and lows of the football season, even after quite such a pleasing display.

He said: “I thought we were fantastic, we could have scored more and we started sloppy and they should have gone a goal up, if I am brutally honest.

“Our passing went amiss, and we were getting caught on the counter as we were leaving too many gaps.

“It is important [not to get too high or too low] and you learn that through experience, I was like that as a player.

“It is an emotional game, but sometimes you have to put that to the side and be professional.

“I will enjoy it. My wife and my kids are here and they wanted to run on the pitch after the game.

“I am probably going to have to put some ice on my jaw, because Mildy [Steve Mildenhall] decided to punch me after we scored the fourth.

“It is a good day and it is one that I will look back on and pick out where we can improve, because I still think we can do better.

“After last week’s shenanigans [drawing 5-5 against Wrexham] I will never take being three or four-nil up for granted.

“I have got faith in my players and I knew that today would not be a repeat of what happened last week.”
