MK Dons is a game Swindon "need to win" according to Lloyd Jones

Swindon defender Lloyd Jones is looking at Friday's trip to Milton Keynes as a key game for the club as they fight against relegation.

The Robins sit 19th in League One currently, just two places and three points off the relegation zone and they are away on Friday which is bad news for the young Reds as Town have managed just one win on their travels this campaign.

Jones is well-aware of the importance of improving the club's fortunes on the road.

"We are (determined to put the away record right)," he said.

"There haven't been good results recently really, the last one probably was Bradford (1-0 win, at home), apart from that the results have been poor if I'm honest so we need to sort that out. Hopefully we can change that on Friday (against MK Dons) and go on a run."

Despite the MK Dons only having one home win to their name in 2016-17, Jones anticipates a tough match at Stadium:MK.

"(Milton Keynes) is a difficult place to go but they've got exactly the same amount of points as us so so it's a big game Friday and three points will come in very handy if we get a result there.

"It's a game we need to win. From a personal point I don't really feel pressure when I go into these sorts of games, it's just another league game, so we're going to try and win it as much as any other game this season.

"A massive positive is that we've got Nathan Thompson back in the side. Even though it was a disappointing result on (Monday) you can see he strives all the boys on really, that's what you look up to and you've got to try and be like him every game."

If selected, Jones may have to play through a minor pain barrier, as he took a knock to the toe against the physical nature of Millwall on Boxing Day.

"(My injury) hurt at the time, I had two injections in my toes, I've had a problem with (the injury) before probably about a year ago so when I did it at the time I felt my ankle and my toe fire up but it's alright, just a bit black and blue."

As the half-way stage of the season approaches, Jones revealed he is loving his time at the Swindon, a club that has become a temporary home for him since his season-long loan switch from Liverpool in the summer.

"I'm really enjoying it (at Swindon). I like the management staff and I get on well with all the boys. Funnily enough I'm really enjoying my football here even though the results haven't been great.

"We (Liverpool) have a loan person, he talks to me after one or two games a month (to monitor his progress).

"I was talking to Alex Inglethorpe, the academy director at Liverpool, the other day. I had a really good chat with him. They monitor every game we play and I think Alex sends clips over so they're really on top of things."

MK Dons away is Swindon's last match of 2016 and 2017 begins with Southend at home on January 2.
