Momentum is building, says Rossiter after Lakeside win

Following a thrilling 50-40 victory for the Swindon Robins over League leaders the Lakeside Hammers on Thursday evening, Total Sport’s Ryan Walker caught up with Robins manager Alun Rossiter to get his reaction.

After a mixed start to their Elite League season, the Swindon Robins have now won three meetings in a row. And Rossiter admits that momentum and confidence is certainly starting to build within the Swindon camp.

“Momentum is definitely starting to build,“ Rossiter began.

“We had that blip against Wolverhampton when we got caught out by the track and a few other issues.

“But the boys have really started to push on now and like I said I’m extremely confident about every one of them.” He added.

Following back-to-back defeats in April against Leicester and Wolverhampton respectively, some doubted whether Rossiter’s riders were up to the task. But after recent positive results the doubters appear to be no more and Rossiter insists that negative views don’t bother him or the team.

“ We don’t care about the doubters.” Rossiter stated.

“ Speedway is just full of so much negativity and I don’t care about negative thoughts that people have about this team.

“ I keep hearing people say that we look weak and will struggle this year which is nonsense.

“ We’ve beaten Belle Vue, beaten Coventry away and now we’ve beaten the League leaders Lakeside tonight by ten points.” He said.

With five Australians in the team, Alun Rossiter admitted before the season that positive team unity was a key focus this year. And with seven meetings gone for the Swindon Robins so far this season, Rossiter is glad to see his team bonding so well.

“ They are all getting on like a house on fire.” Rossiter explained.

“ It’s something that is fantastic to see. The boys all get fired up when they keep hearing stupid comments with people saying we look weak.

“ I tell them to just go out and do their stuff and week in week out they are now doing it.” He replied.

Scoring his first fifteen-point maximum of the season for the Swindon Robins on Thursday evening, Jason Doyle really is helping to spur the Wiltshire club forward and Rossiter was full of praise for the club Captain and World number five.

“ Doyley [Doyle] was absolutely outstanding tonight.” Insisted Rossiter.

“ He’s been a great Captain, a pleasure to work with and he’s been absolutely first class with the rest of the riders.

“ I would say he is pretty much the best rider in the League, but also he is showing how much he has matured as a rider and why it is that we swapped him for Maciej.” Added Rossiter.

With the Swindon Robins next in action away at the Belle Vue Aces on Wednesday 11th, Rossiter believes that it will be an equal meeting for both sides as it is the Aces first time of riding on their new track at the National Speedway stadium.

“ People are saying it’s going to be a tough meeting for us but it’s going to be a level playing field I believe.” Stated Rossiter.

“ Belle Vue haven’t had many laps round there, they haven’t had a meeting at their new track so it’s going to be a good learning curve all round for both teams.”
