Morris eager to be back in heat leader position

Swindon Robins star Nick Morris has expressed his joy at recently being restored to a heat leader during the recent home victory against Lakeside Hammers.

Morris has at times been put into the number four position within the squad due to rule changes for the 2016 Elite League Season. However the long serving Swindon rider admitted he was glad to be back in the heat leader role.

"I’m glad to be back in that heat leader role and I actually prefer it there if I’m honest," admitted Morris.

“When you're in at number four you don’t have any time to change things and it’s just bang, bang, bang, get on with your racing.

“The win over Lakeside was great though and we will try to kick on from here," he added.

With bike problems a plenty in the Swindon pits on Thursday night many question how hard it is to find the right setup. However Morris told TotalSport Swindon of the various difficulties riders encounter when trying to perfect their racing machines.

“Every meeting is totally different in terms of bike setups," said Morris.

“You can have the setup one meeting and everything is awesome and then you keep it the same for the next meeting and it’s different.

“ Speedway is hard, you have to keep on top of the setups and against Lakeside I think we all did ok.” He said.

With Swindon having rode the second highest amount of meetings so far this season with fifteen to their name, some fans are cautious of other teams outscoring the Robins with the meetings that they have in hand.

However Morris isn’t worried, and insists if the Wiltshire club can pick up a few more away points then they will make the playoffs.

“For sure we are still expecting to make the playoffs," explained Morris.

“We are still in this title chase big time.

“We have a few away meetings coming up and we need to make sure we pick up points there as well as at home.” He added.

Morris being named as one of four Swindon riders in Mark Lemon’s initial 10-man Australian World Cup squad shows how highly regarded the 22-year-old Australian is.

But whilst he is glad to be named in the squad, Morris doesn’t think his performances so far this year have been good enough to warrant a place in the final four-man squad.

“ I’m really glad to be named in the team but I think it’s pretty unlikely that I’ll be named in the final four-man team.” Said Morris.

“ I haven’t had the best of seasons as I have struggled to race as much as some of the other guys.

“ The likes of Max [Fricke] and Sam [Masters] have been performing great this year and Doyley [Jason Doyle} and Chris [Holder] are no brainers to pick. It is unlikely but I will just keep focusing on what I’m doing.”
