0700 392 1235After being made skipper and the Robins number one at the start of the year, Morris has endured a frustrating season with consistency being a problem. And when asked about his own performances this year, Morris was modest in his review.
“It’s been an average season for me,” said Morris.
“Poland has been good, the Championship over here has been good, but the Premiership has been a mixture of good and bad for me.
“My home form here at the Abbey has been disappointing for me this year as racing at home is usually one of my strengths,” he said.
“It’s been an up and down year but quite average,” added Morris.
A difficult season for the Robins saw the Wiltshire club fail to replicate their title-winning form of last year, and Morris believes that an accumulation of problems has led to the squad underperforming.
“We just haven’t performed this season,” said Morris.
“That’s been our downfall and we’ve had some problems with the track here as well.
“We’ve just never been that comfortable really and things, unfortunately, haven’t worked out for us,” he added.
Having now completed seven seasons of racing at the Abbey Stadium, Morris remains as the team’s current longest serving rider. But when asked about rumours suggesting that a move away next year might benefit his career, the 24-year-old insisted no talks have taken place with any clubs yet.
“For sure I want to be back at Swindon next year,” stated Morris.
“I haven’t spoken to any clubs yet and I’m waiting to speak to Swindon.
“I don’t know if they want me back and I just have to wait and see what happens.
“The season has just finished and if Swindon wants me back then we will look at what’s best and make a decision then,” he said.
“The captaincy would be up to Rosco [Alun Rossiter].
“I did it this season and it was fine for me.
“If they wanted to make me Captain again then I’d happily do the job,” added Morris.
Last night’s meeting saw the last of the action take place on the Abbey’s current track as winter work see’s the track made shorter. Something that Morris believes is a good move by the club that will hopefully result in better racing.
“I think changing the track and making it smaller will be better,” said Morris.
“It’s very much following the leader here at the moment and especially this year.
“It’s been very hard to pass here when coming into the corners and altering the track will only make for better racing,” he said.
