Musielak delighted with victory, but says riders must focus on their racing instead of the track

TOBIASZ MUSIELAK was full of optimism for the remainder of the season as the Swindon Robins secured a massive 55-35 win over the Leicester Lions at the Abbey Stadium last night. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the Polish ace following the meeting.

A big victory for Swindon saw the Robins move back to the top of the Premiership table and Tobiasz Musielak told of his delight at picking up yet another three league points as Swindon keep the throttle firmly on their hunt for success this season.

“The goal was to win and thankfully we achieved that,” said Musielak.

“We got all three league points to move up the table and that’s the most important thing.

“We are happy with the victory,” he added.

Winning by a margin of twenty points, it was evident that Swindon was fully focused on not leaving things to a tense finish. And despite Leicester being poor, Musielak admitted his Swindon colleagues were fantastic all evening.

“It was a mixture of things,” Musielak said.

“Sometimes we are perfect and the rivals are not so good.

“But tonight that didn’t matter, we all rode well and got the win,” he said.

A sudden downpour of rain cast doubts on whether the meeting would go ahead as the track was left in a terrible condition prior to racing. But after tireless efforts from the track staff, the racing finally went ahead. And Musielak insists it was the correct decision to delay the action whilst track work was carried out.

“Everything was good with the track tonight except for the first bend,” said Musielak.

“Coming into that corner there was one bump and that wasn’t good.
“It was a bit too wet in some places and the problem before the meeting was that there was too much moisture in the track,” he added.

“It was a good idea to delay the meeting and the track guys managed to make it a nice track,” he said.

And when asked whether some riders spend too much time focusing on the track, Musielak agreed that this was certainly the case.

“Definitely (some riders spend too much time analysing the track),” stated Musielak.

“That is one of the big problems in speedway because we should be focusing on our racing not always thinking about the track.

“We can say to the track staff what is needed to fix areas but we need to be focused on racing.

“Before the start of the meeting a lot of the riders were focusing on the track and I was in the pit focusing on getting ready to race,” said the Polish rider.

A fantastic night of racing from the 24-year-old saw Musielak fall just short of a paid maximum and after a great performance, he stated it doesn’t matter what position he is riding in for the team.

“It doesn’t matter for me whether I am racing at one, two, three, four, or five,” said Musielak.

“I have to meet all of the opposition riders at some stage throughout the meeting so it doesn’t really matter to me.

“If I move to number five again then no problem,” he added.
