Nick Morris 'fitter and fresher' than ever before ahead of 2016 Speedway campaign
Despite a drastic shake up in the Swindon Robins' camp, fans favourite Nick Morris remains, and the man himself sat down to talk with Total Sport's Ryan Walker ahead of the Elite League opener against reigning champions Poole Pirates.
Returning to the Swindon Robins for a fifth successive season, Morris insists he is glad to be back and is looking forward to getting back on the bike and heading out onto the Abbey track for Alun Rossiter's side once more.
“I can’t wait to start the new season now," Morris began.
“It’s good to be back, for my fifth season I think it is now, so this place is like my home.
“I can’t imagine being anywhere else," he added.
A new stadium was intended to be ready for the new season, but delays have seen this be pushed back until next year. However Morris admits that the current Abbey Stadium is perfectly fine for him.
“We’re not in the new track so hopefully we will do the season here now and move into it next year," said Morris.
“I’m happy to ride at this track, there is nothing wrong with it.
“The only problem is that the houses are getting a bit closer," the 21-year-old added.
A winter break for Morris saw him race to a fifth placed finish in the Australian championships, but a well-deserved rest ensued. Something the youngster said has prepared him well for 2016.
“I did the Aussie titles but apart from that haven’t really done much.” Morris explained.
“It’s good to have break as it allows you to get the hunger back once again.
“I’ve been in the gym working hard and I’m feeling fitter and fresher than I ever have been.
“I am feeling really fresh ahead of the new season," he added.
With five changes being made to form Alun Rossiter’s new-look Swindon side, Morris has become the Wiltshire club's longest serving rider, but says that there will be no added pressure on himself as a result.
“I am one of the more experienced riders now but I’m just focusing on riding well," said Morris.
“It’s great to be a heat leader again and I’m glad that Rosco [Alun Rossiter] has put me in that position.”
“I raced there last year so know what is required of me," he added.
