Niels-Kristian Iversen blames track, as Swindon Robins defeat King's Lynn
Thursday night at the Abbey Stadium saw the Swindon Robins extend their lead at top of the Elite League table beating the King’s Lynn Stars 55-38 on the night. Total Sport’s Ryan Walker crossed over the pits to get the reaction of Stars Captain and World number four, Niels-Kristian Iversen.
A close night of racing saw the lead switch hands several times throughout the night’s racing with Swindon clinching the win in the latter stages of the night. And Iversen believes the difference on the evening was that the Swindon Robins were just the stronger side.
“The difference was that Swindon are just the stronger side all the way through,” Iversen began.
“I think that is pretty easy to see and they were just the better side on the night.”
With King’s Lynn having arguably the best track in the League at the Adrian Flux arena, Lynn riders can sometimes find it hard going to more challenging tracks, and Iversen wasn’t full of praise for the foundations at the Abbey stadium.
“The track here at Swindon was pretty poor if I’m being honest," said Iversen.
“The track here tonight was full of holes and it caught a few guys out sometimes which led to crashes.
“Apart from that big problem it wasn’t too bad but it is a problem when the track is slick and you have these holes," he added.
“The track is what it is though and I seemed to be getting on with it alright I guess.
“But what can I say, we’re here and we didn’t manage to win the meeting which is a shame," he stated.
With the Norfolk clubs last outing in the Elite League coming almost a month ago, consistency is something the Stars have struggled with and Iversen agrees that a bit of momentum is what’s needed to get his side up the table.
“We have just got to take every meeting as they come and try to get a few more wins and build a bit of momentum,” replied Iversen.
“It’s not easy all the time in this League but we will do our best to try and get a few more points.
“We will keep fighting," he expressed.
Despite the loss for his side, Iversen put in some quick racing and ended the night with a fantastic 14 points. Something that Iversen himself was happy about.
“I would say I rode pretty good tonight," admitted Iversen.
“It was going well for myself up until the last race when I stuck it in the fence which wasn’t the way I wanted to finish.
“That’s Speedway sometimes though. I had some good races in the beginning which I’m happy about and I will try and forget about the last one," he said.
Away from Elite League Speedway, Niels-Kristian Iversen is one of the best riders in the world on the Grand Prix circuit. But after finishing fourth in the world last year Iversen has struggled to replicate that form and currently sits in 13th position on 12 points after the opening two rounds of the series. But whilst the Danish born racer admits his riding hasn’t been good enough, he is confident of getting back to his best soon.
“It’s been a slow start to the Grand Prix’s this year for me and if I knew the problem then I wouldn’t be having these poor results," stated Iversen.
“It’s pretty tough riding at such a high level and I’ve just started off slowly this year, similar to some of my previous years.
“You’ve just got to forget about bad results and move on. I’m pretty sure that when I hit top gear I’ll be back up there with the big boys," he added.
