On-loan Swindon Town defender Lloyd Jones arrested following Port Vale loss in March

Defender Lloyd Jones, on loan at Swindon from Premier League giants Liverpool, was arrested in Cheltenham after an alleged assault, following Town's 3-2 loss at Port Vale.

Jones was an unused substitute during the defeat at Vale Park and three days later he was out of the squad entirely, as Swindon fielded a number of fringe players in a 4-2 loss at home to table toppers Sheffield United.

It was revealed at full-time of the Sheffield United match that three players - Lawrence Vigouroux, James Brophy and Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill were removed from the squad for a breach of discipline, and it was confirmed that week that Jordan Stewart was involved as well.

The quartet were fined by head coach Luke Williams.

At the time, Jones' misdemeanour was not mentioned.

A statement released by Gloucestershire police said: “We received a report at about 2.30am on Sunday, March 12, of an assault at a nightclub in Regent St, Cheltenham.

“A 21-year-old man from the Plymouth area was arrested on suspicion of assault. He was bailed until April 28, 2017.”

Jones has not played for Swindon since a 3-1 win at Coventry on February 25 and, since January, has found match time hard to come by as he is one of seven loanees currently at the club, when Swindon are only permitted to name five in an 18-man squad.

The 21-year-old will not play in the last game of the season, against Charlton at the Valley (13:00 kick off), because he has returned to parent club Liverpool.
