ON-THE-BUZZER MATCH REPORT: Swindon Wildcats 5-3 Peterborough Phantoms
The Swindon Wildcats made it five wins in a row on Saturday evening thanks to a 5-3 win over the Peterborough Phantoms in a yo-yo match at the Link Centre.
Swindon went 2-0 up early on, but found themselves 3-2 down at the end of period 2, although the Wildcats clawed themselves back in the third and final period to earn a 5-3 win.
It was the second meeting between these two of the season and it ended with Wildcats revenge after Peterborough won the first fixture 6-1 in Cambridgeshire.
Swindon had the best of starts at the Link though as Swede Jonas Hoog scored with just 10 seconds on the clock with Tomas Malasinski and Head Coach Aaron Nell both getting credited with assisting the lightning-quick goal.
The Wildcats doubled their lead not long after as Malasinski made it 2-0 at 5:55 with his Powerplay goal that was set up by Hoog after some neat work down the right-hand side which left Malasinski with the simple task of prodding into an empty goal.
Peterborough however would notch a Powerplay goal of their own in the closing stages of the opening period when Martins Susters prodded in a rebound after Stevie Lyle's save.
At 23:25 it was 2-2 via Wehebe Darge's goal that was assisted by Tom Norton and Marc Levers and at 38:24 the turnaround was complete with Owen Griffiths scoring.
The tide changed again in the third period, however.
Nell scored from distance at 41:05 with Hoog and Stevie Whitfield playing a part in the build-up.
Captain Jan Kostal netted to swing the match back in Swindon's favour at 46:43 before Sam Bullas restored the Wildcats' two-goal advantage.
Bullas was on hand to make it 5-3 at 51:50 to keep the Wildcats' impressive form going.
