ON-THE-BUZZER REPORT: Swindon Wildcats 3-4 Guildford Flames
Swindon Wildcats started their season with a loss to Guildford, as the Flames came away with a 4-3 win.
Guildford took the lead all three times, but the Wildcats only managed to pull the Flames back on two occasions as the visitors got their season off to a perfect start.
Ben Campbell put Guildford in the lead after just 16 seconds when he was assisted by Matic Kralj and Sam Walker, but the Wildcats hit back at 9:54 with a goal of their own from Kyle Smith.
The first period 1-1, however the Wildcats were soon behind again when Jez Lundin made it 2-1 to Guildford at 23:03.
Swindon kept the contest alive when fan favourite Jonas Hoog blasted home a second leveller but it was not enough as the Flames restored their lead yet again through Campbell's second goal of the encounter.
Campbell was one-on-one with Netminder Stevie Lyle and, after a cheeky dummy, had the simple task of making it 3-2 at 34:55.
Marcus Kristoffersson gave Guildford a two-goal advantage for the first time at 44:22.
Jan Kostal brought the Wildcats back in the game at 52:26 to set up a tight and tense finish at the Link Centre, but it proved to be in vain as the hosts fell to a 3-4 loss.
