ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon 0-1 Peterborough

Chris Forrester's goal one minute into the second half ended Swindon Town's run of three matches without defeat.

Despite the morale-boosting 2-1 win over Bolton last week, Swindon went down to a Peterborough side who looked the better of the teams for the vast majority.

Forrester's goal, just one minute after the half-time break, consigned the Robins to their first home loss since the 2-0 defeat to Walsall on October 22.

Swindon only made one change from that side that beat Bolton as captain Nathan Thompson returned from his latest injury to replace Conor Thomas at right-back.

From the off, Peterborough looked more likely to break the deadlock and they probably should have done with just four minutes on the clock.

Marcus Maddison, who impressed throughout, picked out Ryan Tafazolli with a left-sided free-kick but the header was brilliantly kept out by Swindon goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux.

With 11 minutes played Gwion Edwards had a shot blocked for Posh and then Town started to come into the game a bit.

Soon after, a jinking run by Yaser Kasim looked like it might end in a goal, however all the Iraq international could conjur was a side-foot shot that was well blocked by a Peterborough defender.

The two teams would then exchange chances in a matter of minutes. First, Islam Feruz failed to properly connect with a volley from Thompson's cross and then, for Peterborough, Tom Nichols back-heeled a Maddison cross straight at Vigouroux.

More half-chances would follow. Nichols whacked a shot from close range well over the bar before Luke Norris was the latest man to have a shot blocked after a neat give-and-go with Johnny Goddard.

Later, the ever-lively Morrison whipped in a free-kick that was flicked over by Lee Angol and then Morrison would hit a tame long-distance volley into the arms of Vigouroux.

Swindon's best chance, both in the half and the match, was a Feruz shot that was well saved by Luke McGhee following well-worked passing from Kasim and Ben Gladwin.

Peterborough's best opportunity without scoring shortly followed when Maddison's arrowed cross picked out the unmarked Nichols, but the ex-Exeter striker could not compose himself, and volleyed over.

The second half started in the worst possible fashion for Town: with a Peterborough goal.

With just one minute gone, Maddison had time and space down the left to pick out Angol, who also seemed to have the freedom of the County Ground, to move the ball on to Forrester who took one touch and fired into the back of the net for 1-0, Peterborough.

Vigouroux got a hand to the shot but was unable to keep it out.

Swindon did push for the equaliser, with a number of successive corners, however McGhee was equal to the vast majority of them as he commanded his box to claim almost all of man-of-the-match Charlie Colkett's deliveries.

The aforementioned Colkett, who produced a number of silky skills in midfield, had a shot blocked after being found by Goddard's pass.

Despite continually pressing for the goal that would get them a draw, Swindon never looked like scoring in the second half with the most promising opening being a low Jordan Stewart cross that McGhee seized on to with Hylton waiting to pounce.
