ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon 1-1 Fleetwood

Swindon were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Fleetwood in their last home match of 2016, despite Luke Norris' first league goal for the club.

Norris headed Swindon into a 12th-minute lead but the score would only be 1-0 to the home side for ten minutes as David Ball levelled the scores with 22 minutes played.

Five minutes into the second half Town were awarded a penalty however Michael Doughty's spot-kick was saved by Fleetwood keeper Alex Cairns.

Swindon's goal started with a positive forward pass by midfielder Anton Rodgers that picked out Jermaine Hylton.

Hylton tried to twist and turn his way past Fleetwood captain Nathan Pond until he settled going for a low cross that was blocked by the defender.

The ball only went as far as the right touchline though and Darnell Furlong produced a top class cross to pick out Norris who headed in his first league goal for Swindon.

Not long later though Fleetwood's deficit was wiped out by ex-Town loanee Ball who could not miss from point blank ranger after Alex Hunter's low ball across goal.

Apart from the two goals, there was little goalmouth action with a Marco Van Basten-esque volley from Hylton being the only real shot at goal.

Five minutes into the second half though Swindon were awarded a penalty when Hylton, who was a problem for the Fleetwood defenders throughout, was tripped in the box by Pond.

Doughty stepped up from 12 yards but saw his penalty saved by a keeper who was more than a few yards off his line when the ball was struck.

There were more shots on goal in the second period.

Norris saw a volley of his from the edge of the box go just over and substitute Sean Murray went close too with a 30-yard piledriver that went just wide.

Fleetwood's most dangerous asset was Bobby Grant who first had an attempt that went over and later hit the bar with a fizzed shot that was deflected onto the upper woodwork.

The Robins did get the ball into the back of the net a second time, again through Norris - this time tapping in a Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill but this goal was ruled out due to the wing-back being offside.
