ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon 3-0 Rochdale
Goals from Darnell Furlong, Nathan Delfouneso and Nathan Thompson earned Swindon Town their first win in six league matches while Ian Henderson missed a second-half penalty for Rochdale.
As well as ending a barren run for Swindon, who would have suffered their fifth home defeat on the spin if they had lost, a seven-match win streak for visitors Rochdale was broken in dramatic fashion.
Queens Park Rangers loanee Furlong opened the scoring in the 24th minute when he rifled a shot into the bottom corner for Swindon's first goal in four matches.
Delfouneso doubled Swindon's lead two minutes after the half-hour mark after Conor Thomas' deep through ball expertly found the ex-Villa forward who kept his composure and slotted the ball past Josh Lillis to give Town a two-goal cushion.
For the first time this season Town scored a third goal in a match late in the second half in fairly fortunate circumstances.
Anton Rodgers' free-kick from the left-hand side was touched on by Thompson and the ball scrambled through Lillis' arms and into the back of the net for 3-0.
It could have been a totally different story, however, as just one minute into the second half Rochdale earned themselves a penalty.
Joe Rafferty was bundled over in the box by Johnny Goddard, but Ian Henderson's spot-kick was blasted onto the bar as, for the second match in a row, Lawrence Vigouroux faced a penalty but did not have to pick the ball out from his goal as a result of it.
Rochdale's misery was personified midway through the second period when Joe Bunney was shown a straight red card for burrowing into Furlong.
It was a super night for Swindon as a collective, but it was special in particular for Vigouroux who kept a clean sheet on the night he celebrated his 50th appearance for the red and white.
