ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town 3-1 Gillingham

Goals from Rohan Ince, Jon Obika and Raphael Branco completed a second-half turnaround for Swindon Town, who won back-to-back matches for the first time in almost a year.

Gillingham took an early lead, in the 10th minute, but goals from Ince, Obika and Branco turned the game on its head in the second half.

The Gills' quickfire lead came about when McDonald seized on a poor bit of defending by Branco, as the Brazilian failed to properly clear his lines when attempting a sliding tackle.

Striker McDonald then took the ball in his stride and had the easy job of slotting it past Lawrence Vigouroux in the Swindon goal for 1-0.

Swindon levelled in the 56th minute when Branco atoned for his earlier error by flicking a Charlie Colkett corner into the path of Ince who tapped in the equaliser.

Town scored again five minutes later, in a more classy fashion, when Obika rifled home from distance during a Swindon counter-attack and Gillingham keeper Ryan Nelson had no chance of keeping it out.

The night got better for the Robins when Branco, who was clearly desperate to wipe out his mistake for Gillingham goal, nodded in another Colkett corner to make the game safe for the relegation-threatened hosts 15 minutes from time.

In truth, despite going behind early on, Swindon largely dominated the encounter at the County Ground on Tuesday night.

During the first half, Ben Gladwin had two great chances to score in a matter of seconds but both his chances, from about six yards out each time, were straight at Nelson who denied him both times.

Swindon's best opportunity, which did not end in a goal, occured on the half-hour mark though when Nicky Ajose had a header from point-blank range brilliantly saved by Stuart Nelson following Charlie Colkett's intelligent cross.

Following Nelson's save it looked like the ball was set to drop to Obika, who would have the simple chance of tapping in the leveller, but Ryan Jackson cleared it behind for a corner, which did not result in a goal.

Jackson seemed to take out Obika in controversial circumstances however as it looked like Obika took a boot to the face. No penalty was given and Obika needed treatment following the incident, but he was ok to continue, although he was replaced by Luke Norris later on.

Swindon started the second half with intent, as James Brophy cut in and had a shot inside the first three minutes of the restart, but Nelson was equal to it.

Luke Williams' men then scored the first two goals and pushed for a third soon after and should have got it earlier than they did.

Gladwin broke down the right with pace, lofted the ball to Ajose who knocked the ball onto substitute Johnny Goddard and the ex-Woking man looked set-to-score but Nelson saved well from his half-volley.

From the resulting corner, Branco headed Swindon into the 3-1 lead and they did not look back.

McDonald almost scored with a sliding tackle after a low cross while Elliott List and Max Ehmer brought brilliant saves out of Vigouroux but Gillingham never really looked like adding to their solitary goal.

This was Swindon's first win over the Kent-based side in eight attempts, with the last victory coming in 2011.
