One more draw equal to a win for Luke Williams

After Swindon managed two draws in their first two games in 2017, head coach Luke Williams feels one more will be equal to a win as the side battle against relegation.

Swindon kicked-off 2017 with a 0-0 draw with Southend at the County Ground on Bank Holiday Monday and five days later they got another draw, 1-1, against Shrewsbury, also at home.

On Saturday, relegation rivals Bury and Chesterfield both lost which meant Swindon got a tad more breathing space, although they remain in 19th. Coventry and Oldham did not play due to FA Cup postponements.

The point was put to Williams at full-time that sooner or later the likes of Bury and Coventry are going to start winning matches, to which Williams replied.

"Yeah, for sure but we have conceded one goal in two games and we have got two points out of those to put on the board. One more draw is a win, it's three points.

"It took us too long to get them but, like I say, to concede one goal in two games in two games is not the idea scenario, of course, we all want to win games of football but it's far better than losing two games and shipping a lot of goals."

Later on, Williams was asked how he saw the relegation picture following the weekend's results.

"(It's) a scrap. Unless we can put a run of results together, victories, and we will move away from that - until that time it's going to be a scrap and we will always be relying on other teams to fail as well and we would like to of course like to get away from that.

"We need to beat as many teams as we possibly can, it's as simple as that. There's no other solution to this problem.

"(Against) the big clubs, the small clubs, our mentality needs to be aggressive to go and win a game, home or away."
