The stage was set in Somerset for the two sides to do battle in the Southern League Division One South & West play-off semi final, with the winners to play out the final on bank holiday Monday.
It was Dave Webb's Supermarine side who would seize the initiative, striking within the opening five minutes of the tie to make their intentions known.
Connor Thompson and Josh Parsons linked up to put Marine one goal to the good, with Thompson cutting in from wide to find Parsons who finished at the first time of asking.
Supermarine remained in the driving seat but could not build upon their authority, instead holding on to their 1-0 lead going into the half-time interval.
The hosts were in need of upping their game for the second 45, with the chance of a spot in the play-off final fading from view.
HT 1-0 Marine. Well worth the lead. Could have been more.

In the 60th minute Taunton made their mark and clawed themselves back into the tie.
Ben Carter saw his effort deflected by Supermarine bodies, only to then fall into the path of his team mate Brett Trowbridge at the back post, who accepted the gift and poked the ball home to level.

With the score locked at 1-1, the tie became an open contest.
Taunton left it late to strike, but in the final five minutes of the tie inflicted a killer blow to break Supermarine hearts.
Link up of Jordan Rogers and Lewis Powell on the 84 minute mark breached the Marine defence and gave their side the all important second goal, securing their place in Monday's final at Banbury.

Supermarine will now ply their trade in the same league for another season, in hope of making the play off positions once again.
The hosts Taunton had only good things to say about Webb's side following the tie, with fans and back room staff commended for their willingness to help out following the full time whistle.
