PLAYER RATINGS: Swindon Town 0-0 Colchester United

SWINDON TOWN kept a clean-sheet but failed to find the back of the net as they struggled in the final third with Colchester United leaving Wiltshire with an undeserved share of the points. Read below as Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker gives his Robins player ratings following the goalless draw.

GK: J Wollacott (7)

Had the quietest afternoon of the season but still had to stay switched on to deal with the rare speculative effort. Never looked troubled as he produced some comfortable saves and excelled with his distribution.

CB: A Odimayo (7)

Rarely called into defensive duties but did well to regain possession in a couple of one-v-one situations and was active in getting the ball forward. Looks to be getting back to his best after starting the last two matches and seems to be settled playing in a back three.

CB: D Conroy (7)

Was assured throughout and impressed as Swindon’s main ball-playing centre-back. Produced a series of impressive diagonal balls and was the commander in Swindon’s defence arranging those around him to prevent Colchester from threatening on the counter-attack.

CB: R Crichlow (7.5)

Crichlow was Swindon’s best and most active defender today as he regained possession on countless occasions by positioning himself to intercept balls over the top. Tried his luck from range with a powerful effort late in the second-half that went just over the bar.

LWB: E Iandolo (7.5)

Found pockets in the Colchester defence all afternoon and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions with his shot in the 42nd minute forcing a brilliant save from the U’s keeper. However, his crosses into the box were at times poor and he must improve on his right foot when cutting inside.

RWB: K Kesler-Hayden (7)

Spurned the best chance of the game after being found unmarked inside the Colchester box but tripped, fell and lost possession. Utilised his pace to get in behind and impressed by playing some delightful crosses into the box that should’ve been put away.

CM: L Reed (9)

Reed was excellent all afternoon as he pressed relentlessly and won possession for Swindon on so many occasions with a host of excellent tackles. Was just as impressive when in possession, spreading play and producing a series of brilliant passes that got Swindon in behind the Colchester defence.

CM: B Gladwin (6)

Demanded the ball lots and contributed to a large proportion of Swindon’s attacks but at the same time he was incredibly frustrating by either not passing earlier or taking too many touches when in possession. Gladwin is a big player for Swindon but has struggled recently and might benefit from some time on the bench.

LW: J Payne (6.5)

Perhaps wasn’t as influential as he would’ve liked to have been but still put in a big shift and was effective at linking play up in attacking areas. Faded at times in the second-half and didn’t provide as much goal threat as fans know he can.

RW: A Gilbert (8.5)

Swindon’s biggest danger-man and was a constant problem for the Colchester defence to deal with. Always wanted the ball and when in possession he usually played a splitting pass that got Swindon into some dangerous attacking positions. Lacked accuracy with some of his shots at times and you can see his desire to grab his first goal for Swindon.

ST: T Simpson (7)

Did everything in his powers to score for a third consecutive match but lacked accuracy in front of goal when it mattered most. Looked through on goal in the opening ten minutes but was wrongly deemed to have fouled a United defender in the build-up, however, he should’ve buried a header in the second-half after being found inside the box with a brilliant cross from Kesler-Hayden. Ran himself into the ground and showed his willingness to fight for the shirt.

Substitutions:

J Mitchell-Lawson (N/A)

Came on with under ten minutes left and had very little time to make an impact.
