PLAYER RATINGS: Swindon Town (0) v (1) Northampton United

SWINDON TOWN suffered their first defeat of the season as Northampton Town scored from an offside position in the second half to earn their first League Two win. Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker gives his Robins player ratings following the result.

GK: Luke McCormick (7)

Could possibly have done better at his near post to stop the Northampton goal but probably wasn’t expecting the strike to come with Williams well offside in the build-up. Distributed the ball well throughout and was strong in collecting the ball from aerial deliveries into the box.

RB: Rob Hunt (7)

Produced the same solid standard of performance that Swindon fans are coming to expect of the 24-year-old. Got forward well when required and marshalled the right flank well allowing very little to get past him. Another solid performance.

CB: Dion Conroy (C) (7.5)

Was solid in his defensive duties and rarely set a foot wrong. Was strong with his headers in both boxes and was confident in bringing the ball out from the back as Swindon pushed forward. Conroy has quickly settled into the role as Swindon Town captain and looks set for a strong season if he can keep fit.

CB: Mathieu Baudry (7)

Booked early on for fouling Northampton’s Andy Williams after conceding possession close to his own goal. Improved as the game went on and was strong when defending balls into the box and in one-on-one situations. Seems to struggle when playing the ball out from the back at times but Baudry will be a big player for Swindon this season if he can keep fit.

LB: Zeki Fryers (6)

Provided good overlapping runs throughout the first half but too often let down by a poor final ball into the box. Was at times caught too far up the pitch when Swindon conceded possession but looks to be improving each game. Was withdrawn early in the second half through injury.

CM: Jordan Lyden (8)

Bossed the midfield area well and played a relatively defensive performance allowing both Doughty and May to push forward. Broke up play in the centre of the park well and nearly put Swindon ahead in the 55th minute only for Cornell to pull off a brilliant save to deny Lyden’s header going in.

CM: Adam May (7)

Worked hard alongside Lyden and endured a mixed showing against Northampton Town. Linked up well with his midfield partner and got forward well. Looked short of ideas when in advanced position at times, but was brave in having shots on goal with his 70th-minute strike a good opportunity to get Town back into the game.

RW: Lloyd Isgrove (8)

Swindon’s best player of the season so far produced another free-flowing performance against Northampton. After having an injection in his knee at the weekend, Isgrove looked determined as ever getting forward down the wings and providing numerous crosses into the box. Tried effortlessly to break the deadlock Swindon but to no avail. Deserved a goal tonight in what was a strong showing from the Swindon attacker.

CAM: Michael Doughty (7)

Started in an attacking midfield role but eventually resorted to sitting deep alongside Lyden helping to break play up and getting Swindon on the front foot. Enjoyed plenty of possession and was creative in his attempts to unlock the Northampton backline. Found spaces in what was a congested Northampton half but couldn’t find the crucial pass needed in the final third. Did well in his defensive duties and has worked hard to improve this element of his game.

LW: Kaiyne Woolery (7)

Utilised his blistering pace to his advantage to get Swindon on the front foot and had a couple of good goalscoring chances. Got into some positive attacking positions but at times struggled with his decision making in the final third. Woolery has established a strong relationship with Keshi Anderson this season and the winger looked a bit short of ideas at times without his playmaking partner next to him. Woolery produced a solid performance against Northampton and will surely improve as the season progresses.

ST: Eoin Doyle (6.5)

Making his home debut after scoring against Exeter at the weekend, Eoin Doyle struggled to make an impact against Northampton Town. Tried extremely hard throughout the match even dropping deep on multiple occasions but was let down by a lack of balls into his channel. Held play up well at times but couldn’t register many attempts on goal. Doyle will be a key player for Swindon this season and will undoubtedly score a lot of goals under Wellens.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Tyler Reid (6)

Replaced Zeki Fryers early in the second half and added extra energy to the side as Swindon went in search of another victory. Pushed forward well and was determined in his efforts to track back and defend.

Scott Twine (N/A)

Didn’t have a lot of time to make any significant impact.
