PLAYER RATINGS: SWINDON TOWN 1-1 NORTHAMPTON TOWN

SWINDON TOWN came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Northampton Town at The County Ground today. TotalSport Swindon's Ryan Walker gives his Robins player ratings following the action.

GK: Luke McCormick (7)

Another good performance and pulled off some great saves to stop Northampton increasing their lead. Could have done very little to stop O’Toole’s bullet header going in, but seems to have cemented his spot as Town’s number one.

RB: Kyle Knoyle (5)

Had lots of possession on the wing but crosses into the box were well below par. Got forward from the full-back position well at times but his passing was too often inaccurate and had Town backpedalling. Not the best ninety minutes from a usually consistent player.

CB: Olly Lancashire © (7)

A calm and collective performance from the Captain saw Lancashire put in a big shift at the heart of Town’s defence. Dealt with aerial balls well and used his strength to dispossess Northampton’s attackers throughout. Nearly caught out by a ball over the top in the 22nd minute but a solid performance from Lancashire.

CB: Luke Woolfenden (7)

Another performance of maturity to show just how well the young centre-back has settled into the club. Partnered Lancashire well in defence and rarely made any mistakes. Dealt with one-on-one situations calmly to deny Northampton opportunities.

LB: Matty Taylor (5)

Poor with delivery throughout the game but produced a typical Matty Taylor free-kick into the top left of the goal in 73rd minute to get Swindon level. A poor game throughout despite the goal earning Town a point.

CM: James Dunne (5)

A mixed performance in which a positive move was often immediately counteracted with a poor piece of play from the midfielder. Should’ve buried his chance in the 5th minute to give Swindon the lead, and will surely be replaced once Doughty is back fit.

CM: Toumani Diagouraga (8)

Was awarded the man of the match and continues to impress now he is up to full fitness. Controlled the midfielder area well and contributed effectively in both defence and attack. Sprinted forward with the ball well in the 50th minute as Town pushed for on for a goal and was a big player at either end for Town.

LM: Steven Alzate (7)

Starting on the left-hand side of a midfield four. Alzate played match showing great quality at times. Produced a brilliant back-heel to set up Richards in the games opening moments and continued to impress throughout with some good passing and silky footwork. Should’ve beaten his man more often in the first half but a good all-round performance.

RM: Jermaine McGlashan (5)

Back in the starting XI and worked hard throughout but with very little end product. Consistently used his pace to find crossing opportunities but his final ball was poor. McGlashan has the potential to become a regular under Phil Brown but must improve in the final third.

ST: Marc Richards (4)

A difficult afternoon for Richards saw the striker endure a poor game against a weak opposition. Couldn’t have done more with his acrobatic shot in the 5th minute as Cornell mustered up a great save, but was poor in possession and too often lost the ball. Substituted early in the second half and must improve.

ST: Elijah Adebayo: (5)

Played through the middle in his favoured central striking position but offered little attacking threat. Had lots of the ball but wasted opportunities and seemed lacking in pace when at times one-on-one.

Seemed to have forgotten how to play through the middle after a period of games on the wing, but will surely be back to his best soon.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Keshi Anderson: 7

Made an instant impact coming off the bench and used his direct running to create some good chances. Won the free-kick that resulted in Swindon’s equaliser.

Scott Twine: 6

Played with great energy when brought on and offered pace to Swindon’s attack. Helped to pick up the tempo as Swindon pushed for a winner in the games dying moments.
