Player ratings: Swindon Town 1 Coventry City 0
Swindon Town opened up the 2016-17 campaign with a 1-0 victory at home to Coventry City; Total Sport’s Benjamin Wills viewed and reviews the players’ performances.
Lawrence Vigouroux: Made two smart stops to prevent Dion Kelly-Evans from scoring on the opening day – a very solid return for the Chilean on his second Swindon debut - 7
Brad Barry: Not quite as productive as fellow wing-back James Brophy was on the other side of the midfield, but did nothing duly wrong - 5
Nathan Thompson: Swindon’s captain may have been suffering from first day nerves as he lunged into a Coventry defender in the opening moments, but later calmed down and looked solid - 6
Jamie Sendles-White: Looked composed in defence all game to help Swindon earn a vital clean sheet - 6
Anton Rodgers: Passed the ball well in midfield and even came up with a few shooting opportunities - 5
James Brophy: Initially struggled to get the ball under control to contribute to attacks, he eventually grew into the game and fashioned chances, but his teammates could not find the back of the net - 7
Yaser Kasim: Swindon’s match winner. A wonderful curling effort from outside the box gave the Robins a vital goal, and win – his passes were also on point throughout - 7
Michael Doughty: Had possibly Town’s best opportunity when clean through on goal thanks to a Jordan Young pass but took far too much time. His crosses were also wayward throughout. - 5
Conor Thomas: Did ok on his debut against his former club, although he should have had a goal to celebrate - 5
John Goddard: The man who joined from Woking in the summer had an uninspiring debut before being replaced by Jordan Young in the 65th minute as he takes time to adjust to the Football League - 5
Jon Obika: Looked isolated without a strike partner and therefore his ability to bring the ball down was often done in vain - 5
Substitutes:
Jordan Young: After penning a professional deal on Monday, Young was keen to impress in the senior team and did just that with a class through ball to Doughty, but the QPR loanee did not convert – 6
Man of the Match: James Brophy
