PLAYER RATINGS: Swindon Town (2) v (2) Charlton Athletic

Brett Pitman's 90th minute header rescued a point for Swindon Town as they came from behind to avoid a fourth-straight League One defeat. Read below as Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker gives his Robins player ratings following the encounter.

Manager rating: 7

John Sheridan set Swindon up to play in a 4-4-2 diamond formation with Dion Conroy operating as the defensive midfielder and Diallang Jaiyesimi partnering Tyler Smith upfront. Swindon were positive in attack throughout and deserved a point from the game with Sheridan bringing on Brett Pitman to equalise.

GK: M Kovar (7)

Couldn’t have done much to prevent either of the goals and was let down by his defence for both of the goals. Distributed the ball well and has improved in recent performances.

RB: A Odimayo (7)

Odimayo has excelled this season and certainly looks a great prospect for the future. Contributed to attacks throughout and managed to test Ben Amos with a couple of decent shots form the edge of the box. Defended well in one-on-one situations and was vital in Swindon staying in the game after going behind.

CB: M Baudry (5)

Lost the ball on too many occasions and was embarrassed a few times with nutmegs and runs in behind. Struggled to get a hold of Chuck Aneke when the striker was introduced into the fray and failed to impress against an impressive Charlton side.

CB: Z Fryers (6.5)

Was at fault for Charlton’s first goal after failing to deal with a simple ball over the top, but apart from that blip looked confident operating in the centre-back role. Showcased a range of brilliant long-range passing to get Swindon’s attackers in behind and rarely looked out of place when dealing with the pace of the visitors attackers.

LB: J Grounds (7)

Has come in for some justified criticism this season after a string of poor performances but came into form at the right time against Charlton rarely allowing wingers to get down his side and winning the ball back on countless occasions. A good outing for the experienced the defender and will hopefully push on from here.

CM: D Conroy (7)

Was utilised as a defensive midfielder alongside Anthony Grant and cut an assured figure in the centre of the park. Had great positional awareness throughout not allowing Charlton to play through the middle, whilst his robust tackling allowed Swindon to turnover the ball and get on the front-foot.

CM: A Grant (7)

Back in the side after being given a rest on Tuesday evening and appeared to have benefitted from the break with his energy in midfield stopping Charlton from building much momentum. Was a constant nuisance and seemed to enjoy having Conroy alongside him.

CM: M Smith (7)

With Conroy partnering Grant in the defensive midfield positions, Matt Smith was given more attacking freedom and seemed to enjoy being deployed further up the pitch. Was at the forefront of the majority of Swindon’s attacks. Tried to do to much at times and maybe should’ve shot instead of passing on occasion but a solid all-round performance.

LW: J Smith (6)

Switched to the right-wing and did well throughout the first-half taking his man on and often getting the better of his opposite number using his pace to get into dangerous positions. Put some good crosses into the box but at times wasted possession by taking too long with his decision-making.

RW: D Jaiyesimi (8)

Started on the right-wing but was used more as a second striker alongside Tyler Smith. Scored with a brilliant finish after dribbling inside the box and cutting back onto his left-foot to smash the ball past Ben Amos. His hold-up play was excellent and looks almost back to his best since returning to the side.

ST: T Smith (5.5)

Had a relatively quiet game with few chances but remained alert at all times when inside the box. Linked up well with Jaiyesimi but was substituted in the second half as Swindon went in search of an equaliser.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

B Pitman (6.5)

Rescued a point for Swindon with a 90th minute header to celebrate in front of home fans for the first time this season. Adds more of a physical presence to Swindon’s attack and if he can get fit then will be a big asset for the Robins for the remainder of the season.

J Payne (5.5)

Brought on for the injured Jonny Smith but didn’t really offer much to Swindon’s attack. Seems to have lost his way recently and will need to improve if he is to force his way back into the starting side.

R Hunt (N/A)

Brought on late in the game and didn’t have much to do.
