Swindon Town Football Club
STFC are Swindon's top football team, based at The County Ground Stadium.
The County Ground, County Road, Swindon, Wiltshire , SN1 2ED
Website 0330 002 1993GK: Lawrence Vigouroux (7)
Despite conceding two goals, this was another performance where Vigouroux demonstrated his showcase of talents.
Could’ve done very little to stop either of Stevenage’s goals and was incredibly effective with his distribution.
RB: Kyle Knoyle (8)
Was as highly effective in attack as he was in defence, showcasing some high-quality football to help Swindon earn back-to-back victories. Got forward down the wing well constantly making overlapping runs to get in behind the Stevenage defence.
Tracked back well when defending and stifled opposition attacks well, however, should’ve done better to stop the cross that led to the visitors opening goal/
CB: Sid Nelson (7)
Was alert throughout the match despite having large moments of little action and produced some wonderful last-ditch defending at times to keep Swindon’s advantage intact.
Stayed calm when under pressure from opposition attackers and was mature when defending inside his own box to not put in rash challenges. Another solid performance from Nelson despite not having lots to do.
CB: Luke Woolfenden (8)
Came so close to scoring with a brave diving header inside the Stevenage box only for goalkeeper Dieng to produce a stunning diving save to keep the ball out in the 63rd minute.
Didn’t have too much to deal with in defence but won the majority of his aerial battles well and brought the ball put with confidence to help get Swindon on the front foot.
LB: Ellis Iandolo (7)
Another player who has seen his position change under the stewardship of Richie Wellens saw Iandolo deliver another great performance in a Swindon shirt.
Was given the licence to roam when Swindon were going forward, and almost found the back of the net with two long-range speculative efforts in the 68th and 74th minutes.
Has started to apply the defensive elements of play to his game and is now surely one of the first names on the team sheet.
CDM: Matty Taylor (7)
Seems to have taken well to his new position of defensive midfielder and was a constant presence throughout. Playing in the middle of the park gave Taylor plenty of chances to spread the ball well with his accurate long-range passing often creating space for Town.
Was consistent with his set-piece deliveries throughout and his maturity was demonstrable as he used his experience to help guide Swindon’s youngsters through a difficult final few minutes. Doesn’t have the legs to boss a midfield anymore but a solid showing from the veteran
RCM: Steven Alzate (8)
In a game where lots of energy was needed to open up Stevenage’s staunch defence, Steven Alzate provided bags full of it. Was eager to get on the ball throughout and was constantly searching for a forward pass to create goal-scoring opportunities.
Got himself into some good positions and delivered a great cross for Pryce’s opener with the striker being left with a simple tap-in to open the scoring. His influence lessened in the second half, but another big performance from the youngster.
LCM: Michael Doughty (8)
Having last started in Town’s victory over Notts County nearly a month ago, Doughty was brilliant in the heart of the Swindon engine room.
Brought the ball forward with the confidence and quality that Town have been lacking in this season and was a handful to deal with for Stevenage as he popped up all over the pitch.
His game was full of tricks, turns, and intricate touches to get Swindon on the front-foot as they went on the hunt for goals, and provided a great assist with a lovely reverse through ball for Pryce’s second.
RW: Keshi Anderson (8)
Produced another brilliant performance and was instrumental in helping Swindon secure three points. Linked up well with his fellow attackers and often interchanged positions with Pryce to wreak havoc amongst the Stevenage back line.
Used his pace and movement effectively to create chances, and was almost on the end of a fantastically worked opportunity after playing several one-twos with Doughty before seeing his shot saved in the 75th minute.
Continues to create chances but an end product is still missing in front of goal.
ST: Sol Pryce (10)
Scored two well-taken goals on his debut and produced a fantastic performance all round. Looked like a player with plenty of matches under his belt despite being only 18-years-old and led the line well in the absence of Adebayo and Richards.
Ran tirelessly and was clinical with his finishing. A great performance and will now undoubtedly start against Woking at the weekend.
LW: Scott Twine (8)
Another game meant another goal for the youth academy product that spears to be growing in confidence with each passing game.
Found himself in the right place at the right time to score his goal as the goalkeepers save presented Twine with a golden chance to score.
Appealing on the eye throughout, combining fancy footwork with dangerous shots from range to constantly test the Stevenage shot-stopper. Is quickly turning into a nightmare to deal with for opposition defenders, but a favourite amongst Town fans.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Olly Lancashire (N/A)
Came on with little time remaining but helped solidify Swindon’s defence as Stevenage searched for a late equaliser.
Jermaine McGlashan (N/A)
Brought on to stretch the opposition defence in the games dying moments and did well to get forward on the few occasions he had the ball.
