PLAYER RATINGS: SWINDON TOWN 3-2 TRANMERE ROVERS

A fantastic match saw Swindon Town come from two goals down to secure a dramatic comeback against Tranmere Rovers winning 3-2 at the County Ground. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker gives his Robins player ratings following the action.

GK: Lawrence Vigouroux (6)

Was left one-on-one for both goals and would have had to produce stunning saves to stop them from going in. Looked more comfortable on the ball than in previous matches and distribution the ball with accuracy.

RB: Kyle Knoyle (7)

Continues to impress and played a pivotal role in Swindon’s comeback. Was at times outpaced by his opposing winger and could’ve done better to stop the cross that led to Tranmere’s opening goal. But his willingness to attack down the wing created openings for Town.

CB: Olly Lancashire (6)

Despite criticism of his performances, Olly Lancashire gives his everything when playing in a Swindon shirt. Given yet another centre-back to partner in Joe Romanski, Lancashire put in a solid display.

Came forward with the ball well and used his strength to deal with the threat of Norwood. Another encouraging performance but he must stop his defence conceding goals.

CB: Joe Romanski (6)

After producing a man-of-the-match performance against Forest Green mid-week, Joe Romanski endured an afternoon full of mixed emotions. Struggling to deal with the opposition threat, playing in his unfavoured centre-back position, Romanski’s poor header led to Tranmere’s opening goal.

However, his winning goal in the 72nd minute made himself the hero of the afternoon. A difficult afternoon for the youngster but his goal eliminates any fan criticism.

LB: Matty Taylor (7)

Put in a performance that you would expect from the experienced defender. Didn’t have any spectacular moments but hounded the opposition back-line with cross after cross into the box. A solid player who Phil Brown can always rely on.

RW: Jermaine McGlashan (8)

Back in the starting team after being dropped for Tuesday’s cup match, Jermaine McGlashan put in a fantastic performance for Swindon Town.

A constant threat to the opposition defence and ran tirelessly down the wing linking up with Adebayo well on multiple occasions. Not afraid to take his man on and used his lightning pace to create openings.

CM: Toumani Diagouraga (5)

Substituted on the 24th minute for Marc Richards and appeared lethargic when on the pitch. Has endured a difficult time since returning for Swindon but will come good when he’s up to match fitness.

CAM: Michael Doughty (8)

Saturday’s result means Michael Doughty has now played a part in five of Swindon Town’s last six goals, scoring four and assisting one.

Put in another highly impressive ninety minutes performing his defensive duties as well as his attacking. Played a brilliant reverse ball assist for Adebayo to score his opener.

CM: Martin Smith (7)

Another start for Martin Smith saw the 22-year-old dominate the midfield throughout. Came forward with a purpose when attacking and tracked back well to put in timely slide tackles and get Swindon going forward again.

Was the subject of an awful tackle from Jay Harris in the 16th minute for which the Tranmere player was sent off.

LW: Keshi Anderson (8)

Formed part of Swindon’s devastating three-pronged attack and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Regularly interchanged positions with Adebayo and caused openings with his direct running at the opposition.

Should’ve scored when found unmarked in the box from an Adebayo cross but could only shoot over.

ST: Elijah Adebayo (9)

An outstanding performance from the striker topped off by finally getting his first goal for Swindon Town. Scored Swindon’s first after latching on to a Doughty through ball and firing past Davies.

Constantly ran in behind Tranmere’s defence whilst using his strength well to hold up play. A great performance from Adebayo who will hopefully push on from here.
