PLAYER RATINGS: Swindon Town (3) v (1) Crewe Alexandra

SWINDON TOWN got back to winning ways with a dominant display against playoff rivals Crewe Alexandra as goals from Rob Hunt, Jerry Yates and Danny Rose saw Swindon record a 3-1 home win over The Railwaymen. Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker gives his Robins player ratings following the action at the County Ground.

GK: Steven Benda (8)

Adapted to conditions well and looked comfortable when coming off his line to collect deliveries into the Swindon box. Reacted well to save the effort of Tommy Lowery early on in the first-half.

RB: Paul Caddis (7)

Put in a commendable shift at right-back after making his first start since signing a contract extension with the club. Should’ve done better to close down Ainley in the second-half with his cross allowing Crewe to equalise before Swindon ran riot to win 3-1. A solid performance against a difficult opponent.

CB: Tom Broadbent (7.5)

Back in the starting line-up and it looked as if he had never been away. Cut a confident figure from the off looking unbeatable in the air and was positive with the ball when in possession. Remained strong throughout and rarely looked out of place.

CB: Anthony Grant (7)

Has had to adapt to playing out of position with Swindon down to bare bones in central defence. Used his match intellect to produce some key interceptions but struggled at times top against the pace of Chuma Anene with the striker going through one-on-one with Benda in the first-half. Didn’t have much to deal with in the second-half.

LB: Rob Hunt (7.5)

Produced the striker that led to Swindon opening the scoring after his long-range effort took a deflection off Wintle and past Jaaskelainen. Struggled up against the pace of Callum Ainley at times with Crewe focusing play down his flank throughout the first-half.

His effort from long-range opened the scoring in the first-half with his shot deflecting off Wintle and into the back of the net. Improved defensively in the second half and got the assist for Yates’ goal.

CM: Danny Rose (C) (8)

A combative performance saw Danny Rose patrol the pitch tirelessly as he put in tackles and break up play as Swindon got back to winning ways. Didn’t add much quality to Swindon’s attack in the first-half with some loose balls forward conceding possession. Stayed hungry throughout the match and was rewarded with his first goal for the club in the 71st minute.

CM: Michael Doughty (7.5)

Controlled the game from midfield with his calmness on the ball partnered with the quality required to create key openings at the heart of Crewe’s defence. Looked dangerous all afternoon with the visitors struggling to get a hold of Doughty as he demonstrated his passing skills as Swindon attacked with purpose. A good showing from the STFC playmaker.

CAM: D Jaiyesimi (7)

Failed to get on the ball as much as he would’ve liked in the first-half but his influence on the game grew as the match progressed. Was influential in getting Swindon on the front-foot in the second half with his dribbling skills on display for all to see as he carved openings in the Crewe defence. At times went down too easily when he would’ve been better placed to stay on his feet.

LW: K Woolery (6)

A frustrating display from Woolery saw him lack quality in the final third as his decision making at crucial times allowed the Crewe defence off the hook on countless occasions. Switched wings in the second-half as he attempted to get into the game more but just couldn’t make any significant impact.

RW: Lloyd Isgrove (6.5)

Didn’t contribute much to Swindon’s attack in what was a below-par showing from the winger. Seldom saw him sprint down the wings and taking men on in the usual fashion that Swindon fans have come to expect of him this season. Was effective in his defensive duties often tracking back and helping out Paul Caddis.

ST: Jerry Yates (7.5)

After taking up the role of Swindon’s main striker following the departure of Eoin Doyle, Yates endured a frustrating opening 45 minutes in which he came close to scoring on a couple of chances but just couldn’t find the golden touch needed.

An entertaining battle up against Crewe’s Ryan Wintle saw Yates consistently tussle with the defender as Swindon looked to attack with the strikers determined running making him a handful to deal with. Eventually got the better of his man in the 69th minute bringing down a long-ball from Hunt inside the area before shooting on the half-volley to restore Swindon’s lead.
