Poole got that extra bit of luck, says Nick Morris

A race of fine lines and even finer margins saw Swindon Robins surrender their unbeaten run to Poole Pirates on bank holiday Monday, and fan's favourite Nick Morris tells Total Sport it was a case of either team needing that extra drop of luck.

A last heat decider on the night saw the Poole Pirates narrowly clinch victory and Morris was happy to give his view on what was an action packed night of racing.

“It was a tough day of racing against Poole,” Morris began.

“We had a bit of bad luck with some decisions that went against us and I think that cost us really.

“To lose by just two points I think there are plenty of positives to take away from it," he added.

“It was one of those meetings where it could of gone either way and unluckily it went their way.

“We are back there (Poole) on Wednesday where we can hopefully turn it around and we will keep fighting," he added.

Scoring 10 points on the day saw Morris end the night as the Robins top scorer and the Australian born racer said he was happy with his performance, putting his slow start to the season this year down to a lack of meetings.

“I think I had an alright day today," said Morris.

“I felt a bit hard done by with that exclusion and I think Charles [Wright] should have been excluded as he stopped in front of me.

“The ref said because it was my teammate I’m excluded which I don’t fully understand but it’s his decision,” he added.

“A lack of meetings to start with didn’t really help my form.

“We’re racing now though and I’m starting to get a few more meetings under my belt which is great.” Morris explained.

A total of seven Australian riders featured between the teams on the night and even though Nick is friends with his fellow countrymen at Poole, he explained that there are no friendships with the opposition when out on track.

“You don’t really think about friendships when out on track if I’m honest,” iterated Morris.

“Before the meetings you talk with your mates like Brady [Kurtz] and Chris [Holder] but when I’m on track I don’t even look at who I’m against to be honest.

“You treat each race the same regardless of the opposition and it was no different today," he added.

Racing for Sparta Wroclaw in his inaugural season in the Polish Ekstraliga, alongside the Swindon Robins in the British Elite League, Nick Morris admits he has found it difficult in Poland but is enjoying the level of racing.

“It’s been tough so far out in the Polish League.

“I’ve done three meetings out there so far and only really had one ok one.

“I’m just having some problems out there if I’m honest, I’ve blown up three engines so far out there and it’s just taking a bit of getting used to.

“I’ll give it the year and keep working away at it," said Morris.
