Website 0330 002 1993Garner on Anthony Grant:
"We will assess every player going into January and we will try to get the best possible squad in place that will help us push through to the end of the season. I'm having those conversations with Ben Chorley at the moment and we are looking at the current squad and potential targets to bring in. Our only focus every transfer window is for the squad to be stronger when we come out of the window than when we went in.
"That's simply it [other players are playing better], he had an opportunity against Colchester in the EFL Trophy and he didn't stake his claim to go into the squad ahead of him and that's football and the type of competition we want. We haven't got a big squad but we have good quality in there and some young players who are really enthusiastic and have taken their opportunities. That's the culture we want at the football club."
Garner on players fatigue:
"I think every player in the league suffers fatigue due to the exertion from the game but it is about how you recover and prepare for the next game. We do a lot of work on recovery and on preparation and also the players enjoy what we do and being at the club so that gives you energy as well. We are looking forward to each game and after Barrow we have more of a normal week. We will enjoy a couple of days rest after Barrow before the Walsall game."
Garner on his decisions v Orient:
"I look at myself after every game and that is the first thing I review and the decisions made. Sometimes there are things wrong but I wouldn't do anything differently from Tuesday. Tactically we were perfect and if you look at the first-half performance aside from the goal we were near perfect, they didn't have a shot and we had control of the game. Even in the second-half there was no change in that and it was just lapses in concentration."
Garner on promotion aim:
"I think we are with the position we have put ourselves in. The remit when I came in was to stay in the league and stabilise the club and we are ahead of schedule in that regard. We have put ourselves in a good position and it is now about what we do from here. Our focus has purely been game-by-game and I think that is the right mentality to have moving forwards. We're not going to get drawn into looking at league tables or FA Cup draws, it is about trying to get three points, reviewing that game and then moving onto the next one."
Garner on season performances:
"I think the way we have started and the way we have played and the fact we have been very good with that makes teams change the way they play when they come to the County Ground. We don't want nights like Tuesday where we switch off and it costs us points."
Garner on County Ground attendance:
"I would hope we can fill out the County Ground and our home and away support has been fantastic and even in the EFL Trophy games. It's brilliant support and the more fans we can get to games the bigger the atmosphere is and the more difficult we can make it for teams coming to the County Ground."
Garner on gelling between players:
"It has suprised me and it is one of those things you never know how it is going to go. Some of the players we knew and we knew their character and we then tried to do as much due diligence on the players we didn't know as well but the team spirit is as strong as I have ever known and is a big part to the what we do."
Garner on Barrow threat:
"They can play through you and have good attacking threat with that number ten drawn in behind and they have a good mix to their game. We know they pose threats but it is about how we can win the game."
Garner on players reaction to Tuesday:
"I got a sense of frustration following Tuesday yesterday but there is a bounce and a buzz to put things right quickly. We have always gone on a little run after a defeat and it is important we do that again. By having that consistent approach you never get carried away and full credit to the player's mentality."
Garner on injuries:
"We are all fine, it is just Mathieu Baudry out still."
Garner on Barrow:
"They've been really good in their last two games and had strong performances against Ipswich and Sutton. they have looked more solid defensively in those last games but we want to bounce back, go there and get the win and build up that momentum again. It is a huge journey and anyone who makes that journey it is incredible devotion to your football team and full credit to the. Tuesday night was proper support and it was great to see."
Garner on defence v Orient:
"I think we have been pretty solid in general it has just been little moments. Our overall shape on Tuesday was good and our tactical shape restricted them to very little. It is just fine-tuning, 90% of what we are doing is very good, it is just about brushing up on that 10%. We need to make sure we are solid and compact and are just having moments like on Tuesday that cost us. We want to be doing the right things and making sure those situations don't arise.
With a 4-1 defeat you sometimes think you will pull things apart but it was very simple when looking after the game."
Garner on Orient defeat:
"I think the defeat has galvanised us a little bit and for the first 55 minutes we were excellent. They had four shots in 64 minutes, 3 of them have gone in and it was never a 4-1 scoreline. it was lapses in concentration and we have dealt with that. Overall it was a pretty good performance."
Garner on Barrow pitch:
"Conversations we have had last two days is that the game will go ahead. If we travel and the game doesn't go ahead then I will be very disappointed and feel we should get the points as it is a very long journey. The game should go ahead and I'm hoping their pitch is up to it and we can play the game."
Garner on Barrow logistics:
"We are training here early this morning and will have a stop on the way up and then stay in a hotel with the rest of the journey Saturday morning. It's no different to other away games and everything is planned in advance."
Garner on Man City draw:
"I'm not answering anything on Man City until the 2nd of January. It's great that the game is on TV and it's more money for the club but I'm focused on Barrow. I'm not answering any questions on Man City."
Ben Garner has now joined us.
We are in the zoom call and waiting for Ben Garner to join us.
Good morning, I'm Ryan Walker and thank you for joining me for this morning's Swindon Town press conference. Apologies for any lack of Swindon Town coverage this week, things have been extremely busy on the non-sports content side in the build-up to Christmas but we will be back next week with plenty more of the great coverage we know you love!
