PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon Town v Northampton Town
Good afternoon and welcome to Total Sport Swindon's live press conference blog as we bring you all the updates from Swindon Town's pre-match press conference as they prepare to welcome Northampton Town to the County Ground tomorrow in the latest round of League One fixtures. Join our reporter Ryan Walker as he speaks to STFC manager John Sheridan and midfielder Matty Palmer.
That concludes today's press conference.
Sheridan on Tyrese Omotoye:
"It's just the shape of the team but he has a really good attitude and works his socks off in training.
Just because you bring players in doesn't mean you are going to play them.
It happens but as long as he keeps working then he will get a chance and hopefully he will take that with both hands."
Sheridan on Pitman:
"He's a good player and has got experience.
He has a lot of knowledge in the game and will be big part of enabling us to win games.
He's playing well at the moment, and he has played up top with Jordon Garrick against Crewe."
Sheridan on tactics:
"When you win a game no one looks at what you've done, when you lose a game you're under the spotlight.
You get spotted a lot more when you lose."
Sheridan on scoring first:
"It always helps and I think we have proved that in games where we score first.
It gives you a lead and something to hang on."
Sheridan on Northampton game:
"It's a bigger match because you can gain an advantage on teams in and around you.
They will be thinking the same, but we are going into tomorrow with the mindset of getting three points.
They are doing alright, they are organised and the new manager has changed one or two things around.
We do everything we can against whoever we are playing and if we play like we did against Lincoln then we have a chance of winning the game."
Sheridan on consistency:
"I don't think we have been consistent, I thought we were poor against Crewe and excellent against Lincoln.
It's not about the performances, it's about getting the points.
I just want to make sure we get something from each game."
Sheridan on injuries:
"Players are back in training but I won't rush them to be involved tomorrow.
Dion Conroy is ok and is fit for tomorrow.
Injuries are part and parcel of football and you have to get on with it."
Sheridan on Wollacott loan extension:
"Yeh we've extended his loan for another 7 days so that is nothing to worry about.
If a situation occurs where he has to go back to Bristol then we will have to go and get another emergency keeper.
Ideally we want to keep him here for the rest of the season.
He's a keeper that wants to prove himself and he's a confident lad who has settles in well."
John Sheridan has now joined us.
Matty Palmer has now left us, John Sheridan will join us shortly.
Palmer on his role in team:
"I think my role changes quite a bit most games but I'm a player who likes to start attacks.
With the position we are in that has to change and some games they aren't the best looking with the conditions.
I prefer to get on the ball but sometimes it's not always that easy."
Palmer on consistency:
"The performances have got better recently and I think it is about keeping them going.
We need to pick up as many points as possible and at this time of the season it's about getting the points to stay in the division.
That's what we want to do."
Palmer on Sheridan:
"He knows my game having been at Wigan and Oldham with me and I know what he wants from me which makes it easier for me.
We've had good performances and good results recently and hopefully that carries on tomorrow.
You have to adapt quickly to different formations and it is whatever the manager thinks is right for each game.
We've changed formation a lot but we know the basics of what we are doing and it is up to us to produce the performances on the pitch."
Palmer on table position:
"It's becoming a mini league at the bottom of the table and as long as we are at the top of it that's fine.
We don't look at the table that much and it takes care of itself."
Palmer on Northampton:
"Every game is different but we have to go into the game trying to create as many chances as possible.
We created lots of chances against Lincoln and should've scored more.
These games against teams in a similar position are pressure games and we all know it is a massive game."
Palmer on team morale:
"The win and a good performance against Lincoln raised confidence and morale.
We want to keep the good results coming and we take things from the match against Lincoln who are top of the league.
We more than matched them and feel we could've won really."
Matty Palmer has now joined us and we are ready to begin.
