Website 0330 002 1993That is that, hopefully there is a game this weekend so that this matters.
Jonny Williams on the World Cup:
It is something which gets brought up a lot to me, but my full focus is on Swindon and doing well here. Last season was so frustrating and I just want to get promotion with Swindon. It will be great if I can get there, but my full focus is on here.
Jonny Williams on the strikers:
I think last season having a replacement striker could have been the difference in us getting promotion as Davison was getting flogged every week. I think Jephcott and Wakeling are both really good strikers and have similarities so can switch in and out and be that thing which gets us promoted.
Jonny Williams on scoring goals from midfield:
I think all the players want to do more in terms of goals and assists. We need to score more goals period. We have to take more risks and take chances that might not seem perfect. Look at McKirdy, he would always back himself to score chances in difficult situations and we as a team need to do more of that.
Jonny Williams on not releasing the ball quick enough:
We need to get better at picking the chances to cross and shoot. We need to believe in ourselves to do it and a lot of goals are scored in scrappy situations, so it is something we need to do more of.
Jonny Williams on Jephcott and Roberts:
I don't know them too much from the Welsh set up, but I think they are great signings and we need to give Jephcott the chances because he can score goals.
Jonny Williams on playing Newport:
There isn't any change for them being a Welsh team, I just want to win every game. I feel like the squad is bonding and gelling more all the time and hopefully we can go and win.
Jonny Williams on being fouled:
I have always had to put up with it, when I was young and put into older age groups it would happen when I would be dribbling past them. No one is going to let you run through the pitch without putting a tackle in and hopefully staying injury free.
Jonny Williams on playing on the wing:
I have played there a lot in my career, I was always a midfielder coming through but they see me as being versatile and allow me the versatility to drift and come inside and play my game and get into spaces where I can attack other teams.
Jonny Williams on set-up:
We like to be possession based but we have discussed being more direct at times and putting the ball into the box and we as players need to take the opportunities to shoot and cross when the come up.
Jonny Williams on draws:
I don't think I have had this many draws in a row in my career. It is a positive that we aren't losing but we need to start winning games. It changes the atmosphere and gets everyone more excited.
Jonny Williams on Gillingham:
It was a very frustrating day. When you see a team go down to 10, your full focus is on winning. It was tough but there are no excuses, we should be winning that game. You have to give them credit for their defending, but we should be winning.
It is of course possible that this game doesn't happen due to what could happen to the Queen, in which case the country would go into a period of mourning.
I believe Jonny Williams is the intended player for today.
As usual just a summary of my questions around about fans losing faith and set pieces.
Scott Lindsey on Newport being attacking:
I don't think their style matters too much for our style. We know their strengths and have worked on how to stop them, but we think we can hurt them and do the right things.
Scott Lindsey on home atmosphere:
I think the Newport fans are loud so it should be a good atmosphere, but I know our home crowd will outsing them. We want to give them something to sing about, start quickly and get them going from the start.
Scott Lindsey on Newport:
They have been hit and miss, but they have some good attacking players. Like Thierry Neves and Omar Bogle. They role between formations and are very fluent, really well coached. It is early doors and their results haven't been great, but they are a good side.
Scott Lindsey on Jephcott as a central striker:
Saturday was difficult for any striker because of the bodies in the middle. We can play with two forwards if we want to and we are confident that when we switch the players will understand what they are doing.
Scott Lindsey on deadline day signings:
We were very disappointed straight after the game and you could see that in my interview, but we have had a really positive week. We are trying to create a positive environment and framing the results in that manner. We have been working a lot on attacking and correcting what we didn't do in the Gillingham game. The vibe in the camp has been terrific considering we didn't win.
Scott Lindsey on turning draws into wins:
It was a really frustrating afternoon. We should have gone for the throat quicker and we found it harder as the game went along. We need more aggressive movement off the ball, we did it better in the second half but not well enough. We had 56 box entries in the second half, which is quite a lot but we just couldn't break them down. We did the same to Salford, but defended a bit higher up and they found it hard in a similar way. With 11 men Gillingham wanted to press us and if they had that the whole way through there would have been more spaces.
But we needed to go for it sooner. It is difficult to move the ball quickly when they are defending deeply and there were moments where we were so high up the pitch and it just didn't happen.
Scott Lindsey on evolving the team:
I think defensively we have been improving, we do a lot of work on defending and had a very intensive session today. We feel we have enough in the building to play a back 4 or 3 depending on the opposition. The partnership between MacDonald and Clayton has been very good, but we turning the ball over too many times for my liking in our own half. Those two haven't played lots of first team football in recent years, so there is a degree of them working into it.
Scott Lindsey on Conor Brann:
Brann is a really good prospect and is on the bench at the moment but we are looking for a free agent. We have a few irons in the fire, so we will see what happens there.
Scott Lindsey on Plymouth comments:
Jephcott is on loan with a view to permanent and the option has been negotiated, so it cannot be reneged upon.
Scott Lindsey on injuries:
Looking good, Adeloye is probably the only one who isn't fit. Iandolo has been integrated this week, but not ready to play. Devine has been training all week and has had a good week. Adeloye is probably 4 weeks away.
Good afternoon everyone, I'm sure everyone is enjoying the perpetual draws to start the season, but Swindon will be searching for that elusive second win this Saturday against Newport and the press conference will be starting shortly.
