PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Sutton United v Swindon Town

Good morning and welcome to another Monday morning live blog as we kick off the week speaking to Swindon Town Head Coach, Ben Garner ahead of Swindon's trip to Sutton United in League Two tomorrow evening. Join our reporter Ryan Walker from 8.25am.

8:56AM

That concludes today's press conference. Thank you for joining us.

8:55AM

Garner on strikers at Swindon:

"What is a number 9 these days? For me it is attacking players. Tyreece is a different player to McKirdy and then you have Jayden Mitchell-Lawson, Harry Parsons, and Alex Gilbert. They are all forwards who can play up there as a one, two or as a part of a three. That's the versatility we want.

"Tyreece and Harry have done very well as a new pair up front and I think across the season Tyreece has done very well. We are really pleased with him and still feel there is more to come from him. We have depth and competition for places and know we have different ways of changing things to have an impact. I am very pleased with the options and it wasn't too long ago we were talking about not scoring enough goals and now we are scoring more. I don't care who scores as long as it is a goal going in."

8:52AM

Garner on Tyreece Simpson:

"Physically he is very strong and there has been no drop in his data from his performance. i think Saturday against Rochdale it was a game where his movement and him doing what we asked him to do was very good, I think it was a case of not playing enough passes for him. The movement of the front two was very good and we could've played a few more balls quicker up to him. That game is an example of where a young player needs to understand they have done well in what we are asking him to do.

"I've had this conversation with him that the top forwards are the ones are the most resilient who don't get disappointed, they keep making those runs and keep getting into the right places which is why they score many goals."

8:45AM

Garner on tomorrow evening:

"It should be a really good game and I think it will be a good game under the lights with the fans travelling away with us having sold out our away tickets again. There isn't any pressure on us internally to keep this away record going, it is just a pure focus on the game. If we are going to win it will be about putting all our energy into a good performance."

8:42AM

Garner on home form:

"If we weren't performing well at home then I would have a few concerns but we have just had a bit of bad luck at times. We had the cutting edge Saturday, scored two goals but made some defensive errors. it is just some very fine margins."

8:41AM

Garner on Crewe FA Cup draw:

"It is a good game away aginst league One opposition but we won't be paying any attention to that until we get to the game. I think in League One there are some huge clubs in there now with massive fan bases but I would say the bottom end of League One and top of League 2 are very similar."

8:40AM

Garner on Sutton 2/2:

"I retired as a player and one of my friends talked me out of retirement to go and play for Sutton and to do a bit of coaching with them as well. I really enjoyed the couple of seasons I had there and it is a really well run club."

8:39AM

Garner on Sutton:

"They are in fantastic form and are having a brilliant season. they probably surprised themselves with the start they have had in league Two. They are a strong team, physically powerful, work the liens well and have been very good from set-pieces. We go there with full respect of what thye do but will be looking to try and impose our game on the style as best we can. It is important we have a good referee who controls our game. I don't know if the rules have changed but when I watch our games we are seeing throw ins taken 10, 15 yards from where the ball went out of play.

"We haven't heard back from our video clips that we sent to the FA. I just want fairness from the referee and at the moment we aren't getting that. Decisions are being given one way and not the other and that is frustrating as a player. We all want as many good decisions as possible."

8:35AM

Garner on injuries:

"Anthony Grant is back in today and will be in with us training today. Jordan Lyden is fit but has missed a lot of football and he was the player that had to miss out on Saturday. Ricky Aguiar had a very good debut for Chippenham and he will still train with us and be with us on an individual basis."

8:34AM

Garner on McKirdy MOTM award v Rochdale:

"Harry had a good game but he will get there every game and keep getting there. He has that belief in himself which is really important for an attacking player and you know he will always be looking to try and create something."

8:33AM

Garner on Swindon goals v Rochdale:

"He has wonderful technique and we regularly see that type of goal in training. He has that quality and hopefully he gets a few more this season. Jonny Williams came on and had an impact and I think it's good sign we are very disappointed with a point."

8:31AM

Garner on Rochdale draw:

"Overall it was a good performance in terms of controlling the game, possession and chances created but we made two defensive errors that cost us two goals and two points. Other than that it was a very good performance against a strong side."

8:30AM

We are in the zoom call and Ben Garner has now joined us.
