Website 0330 002 1993Garner on Mathieu Baudry retirement plans:
"He's been fantastic but I haven't had any conversation with him regarding him playing beyond this season. He is a great character and great to be around and is enjoying every second of every game and showing his quality. Hopefully he can have another strong game tomorrow."
Garner on his managerial approach with players:
"Consistency has been important for us this season in terms of how we work, play, plan and having set standards in that. We try to develop that within the players and getting them to drive the standards and building their leadership qualities. That will be important moving forward where we have built solid foundations and now we need to build around that."
Garner on the importance of building strong relationships:
"In my opinion, I don't think any team or any business can be successful without having that [strong team unity.] If you haven't got the right culture and people then it is so difficult to succeed. Credit to everyone at the football club, it is so together and everyone is so positive. As a squad, we have spent a lot of time together with long days and although it doesn't give people much time off, the plus side is that the team has got closer. The closing stages of Tuesday's you saw what a team spirit there is and how much the players are willing to give for each other. It is a fantastic group and I am proud to have played a part in that."
Garner on the balance of managing expectations:
"We just have to continue with the way we play and not change anything. We always try and attack and be on the front-foot. We need to do that tomorrow and the extra intensity the crowd can provide will only help us."
Garner on players dealing with pressure:
"We are embraced in this moment, have nothing to lose and are just going for it. We need to take Tuesday's confidence into tomorrow's game."
Garner on final 2 games:
"We need to be perfect in these last few games and take it one step at a time and not look beyond Saturday. In 2 of the past 5 seasons, we would already have enough points for the playoffs. If we win our last 2 games I am certain we will be in the playoffs."
Garner on Stratton Bank stand opening:
"It's brilliant and the atmosphere on Tuesday night was incredible and quite simply amazing. We need to step it up again tomorrow and make it a memorable occasion with the Stratton Bank stand open again."
Garner on Phil Brown:
"I actually met him when I was out in India but have never met him in this country. He is another Swindon manager coming back and hopefully he gets a good welcome."
Garner on Barrow:
"Everything seemed to go against us in the away fixture and without being able to prove it I am pretty sure we had covid cases in the group on that day. We owe Barrow a little bit and want to put that right tomorrow. Phil Brown has changed the way they play and it will be a test with how direct they want to play. They have been on a decent run and we have to step up and show the quality we did in the last two games."
Garner on young player of the year award nominations:
"Louie Barry is in that list as well and there was a mistake when the nominations went out. The young players have done really well and it was a big part of our remit coming in to develop young players both with our players coming through the club and loan players coming into the group as well. It has been a nice mix. We aren't overly experienced but there is enough balance in there with experience and the youthful exuberance of the group."
Garner on full-back position:
"Left-back has been the position we haven't had many natural left-backs and had to find a way of playing people in that position. AK did terrific coming on in that position on Tuesday night and that is credit to the players adaptability."
Garner on injuries:
"Everyone has come through Tuesday well apart from Ellis who will serve his one-game suspension. JoJo is progressing with his shoulder day-by-day. The injury was a heavy impact and wasn't available for Hartlepool. He has progressed since then and is progressing each day. We won't take a risk with any player and Lewis Ward has come in and done fantastically well."
Ben Garner has now joined us.
We are in the Zoom call and Ben Garner will be with us shortly.
Swindon head into tomorrow's home fixture seeking to build on Tuesday's victory against Forest Green and attempting to keep their playoff hopes alive. Town currently sit just 2 points outside the playoffs and will need to win their final 2 games whilst requiring either Bristol Rovers or Sutton to drop points.
We are still waiting for Ben Garner to join us but have been assured that he will be with us shortly.
