PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon Town v Newport County

Good morning Swindon fans and thank you for joining us for this morning's Swindon Town press conference as Ben Garner's Robins prepare to welcome Newport County to SN1 as 8th in the League Two table take on 9th in this playoff-chasing clash. Join Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker from 8.25am as he previews the encounter with Ben Garner.

8:58AM

Thank you for joining us for today's press conference. Keep an eye out for more content form today's press conference going out later today.

8:58AM

Garner on building momentum:

"A win tomorrow helps massively of course and I think if we win then it will take us back into the playoff places and it puts us in a better position for the automatic places. A win would be huge and that's what we are aiming for. The players are highly motivated for it and I am looking forward to seeing them play.

"It would be massive to go and string wins together and if you can get momentum in your games then that has a huge effect on where you finish in the table. If we win tomorrow then those next 6 games look more attractive and you whittle them away. We won't look ahead of tomorrow."

8:55AM

Garner on the teams chasing Swindon:

"It's a simple matter of looking inside this building and what we need to do. We can't control what is going on at any other football club, I watched Forest Green play Mansfield the other night and I can't control that so you are just assessing the game. We just focus on Swindon Town and that is all we will do for the remainder of the season."

8:53AM

Garner on automatic promotion hopes:

"No I wouldn't say [they are out of reach], there is 7 games to go, 21 points, and at this moment in time if we win the next 7 then I think we go up automatically. We haven't given up on that and we won't give up that, we will keep pushing and try to win each game. There isn't much point in looking at the league table until the final day."

8:47AM

Garner on message to fans for tomorrow:

"Just bring noise, energy, and passion. The more of that we get, the more it helps the players. Stay with the team and continue with the fantastic support the players have had."

8:46AM

Garner on importance of Newport clash:

"My final message will stay within the dressing room but it's about concentrating on what we need to do and the way you settle nerves and breed confidence is what you do throughout the week. If you haven't done the work during the week then any motivational talk tomorrow counts for nothing. It's about executing what you have done in the week on the day."

8:44AM

Garner on Harry McKirdy fine:

"I have no idea with Instagram and what goes on with that, we have now had a good talk with Harry and have taken action as a club. It's about education with Harry and we have had a good talk. I won't dictate to players, it's about educating and setting standards which I think we have done this season."

8:43AM

Garner on goals scored in league:

"Only Forest Green have scored more than us and we are an attacking team. That could become a key factor come the end of the season. Goal difference could be the factor come the end of the season and we need to get that goal difference as high as possible."

8:42AM

Garner on turning point in home form:

"We have scored 22 goals in 9 games and four wins in the last 5, the form has improved and the fans have been fantastic. We don't approach games differently whether home or away and there was a lot of bad luck in the home games before Christmas with decisions going against us where we dropped points."

8:41AM

Garner on Newport:

"We are looking to do the triple if you include the EFL Trophy games. When we played them last in the league I thought it was a very high standard game where both teams attacked and they are a good side. They have creative players and it is one we are looking forward to. They won't come here to park the bus, they will come to attack.

"We got a message about Dominic Telford possibly being available on a free earlier in the season but it's not just him, they have good players and we will have nothing but respect for them. Every game is a huge game with 7 to go and we just have to focus on us. There's no point wasting energy on anything outside our control. Let's make sure we are doing everything we can and that starts tomorrow."

8:38AM

Garner on player contracts:

"It is ongoing but we have to have the focus on now and the upcoming games. We are always planning ahead with talks on improving the training ground, County Ground, the academy, and contracts. We are always looking for ways to improve."

8:37AM

Garner on Madela Egbo potential start:

"He is getting closer and closer but the difficult thing is he hasn't started a game since early November. That's not easy to come and start a game after that amount of time and it's not pre-season where we can give him minutes and build him up, we are at the business end of the season. He will be very valuable for us between now and the end of the season."

8:35AM

Garner on Reed:

"He's been excellent for us all seasons and is a big miss. It's frustrating because he has missed 2 games almost 3 weeks because of a refereeing error. We are delighted to have him back for tomorrow."

8:34AM

Garner on injuries:

"That 90 minutes did them both the world of good and they are much stronger this week. It's the same for Jack Payne and we are all positive. Jake O'Brien is fine now and came back in this week and is back to full strength. Ben Gladwin has had a really good week joining in with the team and has looked good as well. Harry McKirdy has had a good week and it's about progressing him through the stages of rehab. He ticked the boxes quite early but he is working hard and it's a day-by-day process with him.

"Harry isn't available for Easter but I wouldn't rule him out for next weekend and he has a chance."

8:32AM
