PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon Town v Northampton Town

Good morning and thank you for joining us for the final Swindon Town press conference of 2021. We will be live with STFC Head Coach Ben Garner from 8.25am as we bring you all the important team news and information ahead of tomorrow's visit of Northampton Town.

8:52AM

That concludes today's press conference, thank you for joining us.

8:51AM

Garner on Covid protocols at Swindon:

"We are still undergoing testing protocols and players have to do tests on arrival at training. We have been careful with food and for a lot of this period, players have been taking lunch away with them to take home. We have started eating at training again now in smaller groups with more segregation to make sure we are following the guidelines. Training wise we are getting back to normal and the last player will be back in today. Considering the situation, we have done great to get to this point."

8:49AM

Garner on goalkeeper signing:

"We are looking to bring a keeper in and I would like to think that deal is done fairly soon. This isn't just for Jojo going, we wanted another keeper and wanted someone who would push and challenge both Jojo and Lewis Ward so we are close to doing that and I would like to get it done as quickly as possible."

8:48AM

Garner on Jojo Wollacott:

"He will play against Northampton and then he will fly out a day or two after so this will be his last game with us in 2021."

8:44AM

Garner on Ricky Aguiar:

"He has done really well at Chippenham and he has been patient with his adjustment after moving away from home for the first time and being in full-time football for the first time. He has really developed and I think the loan has really helped him. UNdoubtedly now him and Harry Parsons are closer to our first team."

8:41AM

Garner on Northampton being Swindon's biggest game of the year:

"It is the biggest because it is our next game and looking at Northampton you would probably say we have been underdogs going into tomorrow. We will show them full respect but we want to attack and win the game."

8:40AM

Garner on Football wish for 2022:

"I know what I would like to say but I won't. I think the big thing for next year is to get through the COVID situation for football and the general public. If we can get back to normal games then that would be the best thing possible for football in 2022."

8:39AM

Garner on January transfer news:

"We are close to getting one player signed and that will be done very early in January. We have one or two other targets we would like to get done quite quickly but there is good work behind the scenes from Ben Chorley and we would like to get our business done early. As and when we get news we will let you know."

8:37AM

Garner on Northampton set-piece threat:

"We will be working on the set-pieces this morning and also have a meeting on set-pieces as well. That is their main strength, set pieces, they have two of the best-attacking centre-backs from set-pieces and we have to more purpose to our play than we did on Tuesday night. We have to be intelligent and defend with good desire."

8:35AM

Garner on Northampton:

"I would like to think there would be a good improvement tomorrow and we will be making some changes to the team. We still looked really competitive against Stevenage and we just didn't make enough of those key situations. We have to attack the game more against Northampton.

"It looks from the outside that Northampton have a similar COVID situation to ours. It just depends on how many players have been affected and every club is having their own challenges at the moment. They have been in a brilliant run of form and our focus has to be purely on us. Let's make sure we get everything right in-house to be in the best possible shape."

8:33AM

Garner on Stevenage performance:

"We analyse the performance but you have to do that with a pinch of salt. We gave up too many opportunities in the first half but were much better in the second half. We needed more of an edge to our play but I understand why we lacked that and now we look to progress and improve going into the next game."

8:32AM

Garner on recovery from Stevenage:

"We was in yesterday and had a recovery and a training group. We had one player back in from Covid and the final player missing from that will be back in this morning. We have come through it well and after the Stevenage game the data is good and for some players it is outstanding and that is a phenomenal effort but we can certainly improve and play a lot better."

8:31AM
