PREVIEW: Cambridge United v Swindon Town

SWINDON TOWN travel to Cambridge looking to return to winning ways following their three-nil home loss to Colchester United in mid-week. Total Sport Swindon's Rajan Hothi previews the clash.

Tuesday’s heavy defeat saw Swindon suffer their second league loss of the season, and the Robins will be desperate to bounce back to winning ways as the club attempts to continue their climb up the League Two table.

However, against a competitive Cambridge United side that ran out surprise four-nil winners at ten-man Mansfield Town on Tuesday, making it back-to-back league wins for the U’s, Swindon will have their work cut out.

An impressive weekend victory over Crewe last Saturday has seen Colin Calderwood's side put two promotion candidates to the sword in recent weeks, making Town’s trip to the Abbey Stadium one of Richie Wellens’ biggest tests so far this season.

The head-to-head record between the two sides has seen Swindon win eleven of the previous clashes and losing just six of the 20 previous meetings, with Cambridge’s two-nil win at the County Ground last season was their first victory over Town since 1995.

Despite a poor performance between the sticks against Colchester, Wellens confirmed experienced 'keeper Luke McCormick will not be dropped’ as Swindon look to maintain their unbeaten record on the road. Michael Doughty was introduced from the bench on Tuesday and he may reclaim a starting spot.

Mathieu Baudry was forced off with a knock, but it's unlikely Tom Broadbent will come into the fold after his sub-par showing in mid-week. Zeki Fryers may be required to fill in at centre-back unless Wellens favours youngster Taylor Curran.

Last season Cambridge were in a relegation fight for the majority of the campaign, but Calderwood is desperate to change that this season, after picking up 14 points from their first nine games.

However, whilst Cambridge can boast the second-best away record in League Two, their home form has let them down - winning just one of their four fixtures at the Abbey Stadium and managing just four goals in front of their home fans.

Swindon, in contrast, are undefeated on their travels and will be confident of maintaining their form despite Tuesday's loss.

Town have picked up eight points from their four away games, and Cambridge has proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Robins in previous seasons -winning three and drawing one of their last four visits to the Abbey.

Eoin Doyle tops the League Two goalscoring charts with seven goals, and Swindon will need the Bradford loanee to keep up his impressive form, alongside his strike partner Jerry Yates, if they are to come away with all three points on Saturday.

The pair have notched 11 of Swindon's 17 goals in League Two this season, and Cambridge's defence, who have only managed one clean sheet at home, will have a job on their hands to keep the dangerous duo quiet.

Richie Wellens took the blame for the defeat to Colchester, but a reaction from his team is needed. Cambridge are made of stern stuff and have proved to be no pushovers this season. However, if Swindon are to get promoted, they will need to show their ability to bounce back and Saturday provides the perfect chance to do so.
