PREVIEW: CRAWLEY TOWN V SWINDON TOWN

SWINDON TOWN travel south tomorrow as the Robins face Crawley Town in what looks set to be a hotly contested midweek League Two fixture. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker previews the match ahead of kick-off.

With just two days rest in between Saturday’s 3-2 comeback win against Tranmere Rovers, Tuesday’s match against Crawley will provide a stern test for Phil Brown’s men.

In contrast to Swindon’s latest victory, Tuesday’s opponents have endured a torrid run of results since winning their season opener.

Currently sitting in 19th position of the League Two table, Crawley have won just one of their opening three matches, their latest defeat coming in the form of a 1-0 away loss to Port Vale on Saturday. Whilst Town’s latest victory saw them rise to sixth in the table on six points.

However, despite the two teams recent patches of form, Crawley Town have proved to be a bogey team for Swindon in recent years.

League Two opponents last season, the two teams drew their most recent encounter 1-1 at the Checkatrade.com stadium in April, whilst Town crumbled in the home fixture losing 0-3 at the County Ground.

In fact, you have to go all the way back to 2012 to find Swindon’s last win over Crawley, a 3-0 home victory.

Injury news for the two team’s sees both squads at nearly full strength, with Town defender Dion Conroy possibly the only absentee after Brown revealed the centre-back trained for the first time with the squad on Monday.

Struggling for goals this season, Crawley have only scored three goals from three matches, whilst Swindon have found the back of the net seven times with Michael Doughty playing his part in five of Town’s goals.

Phil Brown will be hoping to put recent defensive woes behind him, but it will be no easy task against a Crawley team on the hunt for their first home victory of the season.

Tuesday presents an opportunity for both sides to boost themselves up the league table, but it looks as if Swindon’s firepower will provide too much for Crawley as Town look to break their poor run of results against their League Two opponents.
