PREVIEW: Fleetwood Town vs Swindon Town

Conor Thomas, the goal-scoring hero of last Saturday, has won the right to start at Fleetwood tomorrow (15:00 kick-off), his head coach, Luke Williams, has said.

Thomas was not supposed to start last weekend, in the home 1-0 win over Millwall, but he was brought in ten minutes before kick-off after Ben Gladwin was injured in the warm-up.

The ex-Coventry midfielder would end up chipping in with the only goal of the game, with pretty much the last kick, for what was his first strike in Swindon colours.

That, along with his all-round performance, has impressed Williams sufficiently enough to start Thomas tomorrow.

“He had the best running stats in the whole team, he ran the whole distance, he ran the highest intensity distance and he scored the goal," Williams said.

“Conor Thomas will be starting against Fleetwood, for sure.”

It is not so certain that Nathan Thompson and Ben Gladwin will be available though. The pair have trained recently without issue but both of them still have their problems of a heel and knee injury respectively.

Yaser Kasim will definitely not make the trip to Lancashire, despite being back in the squad against Millwall, as an ongoing hip problem has resurfaced for him.

With Fleetwood only being promoted to the Football League in 2012, they and Swindon have only met five times, with Swindon winning only once against the Cod Army, in 2014.

Swindon are yet to win at Highbury with the two games at Fleetwood's home stadium ending 2-2 and 5-1 to Fleetwood. The reverse fixture between the pair this season ended in a 1-1 draw, with Luke Norris netting for Town.

Fleetwood, managed by Uwe Rosler, are surprise promotion fodder this season as they sit third in the League One table currently, but they are currently going through a mini rough patch, with just one win in their last four matches.

That came in a 1-0 win win at Walsall's Bescot Stadium and there have been two games since then, two draws, at home to Wimbledon and Bury away (both 0-0).

Swindon themselves only have one victory in their last five, albeit last week, but they do not travel well - winning just three away games all season.
